Hello world! We happily announce our game for Ludum Dare 41: Ultimate Hero Simulator. This is a mix of platformer and virtual pet genres. Our first LD, but we did our best to make the best game we can in 3 days :) It was very interesting and fun to participate.

The game is all about shooting enemies and looking after main character's lovely dog Flufsky! Quite hardcore but hopefuly everyone can make it to the end with enough courage... Just don't forget about the dog.

Check out timelaps how we did it:

Lovely graphics and sound. The pet is a cute addition and I like the idea of combining a pet sim with a combat platformer. Well done.

I really love this game! I love the graphics and the art style of it; they remind me of Risk of Rain. Overall, I think this game is AMAZING, especially being made in 72 hours. With just a tiny bit of work, this could be a really good game, even better than it is before!

Nice game! Really like the intro scene. I thought that the dog became a little bit too much of a chore. It was cool to play a game where the point of killing the enemies was purely for the purpose of getting your pet food.

What an awesome game!

The pure epicness you feel, when the beat starts at the start is undescribeable :D. I really love the artstyle, the colors perfectly match and the animations area adorable.
The interactions with the dog are kinda punishing, but i guess thats what they're for.
The sword attack felt a little bit weak for the animation, and some kind of hit confirmation would've been nice, but after all we really loved this game!!

Great pixel art, especially the background incredible. The sound design is of the highest quality. I had a hard time understanding what the dog needed (he died :cry: several times), but after a while I just pressed all the buttons that hud showed and I managed to progress. It was a great experience. Congratulations.

Wow. Sound and Graphics are just out of this world. The platforming shooting part is so fun that I'm almost annoyed at the pet mechanism, but the theme was what it is and this game most certainly combines two incompatible game generes. thumbs up.

Straight up 5/5 visuals. Whoever did the art, pat yourself on the back like the main character pets the dog! The music was decent, albeit, a little derivative. The SFX were good and generally, I liked the concept! solid entry!

Man, that graphics! Pure awesomeness. Takign care about that dog while fightning aliens, incredible idea. If you have done it in 72 hours, I am curious what would you do in month or year? Have you done any long term projects? The only minus in your game are collsions, but considering everything you did there, it is nothing :D

Graphics are top notch, gameplay was decent also, the aesthetic of the game was super cool. I'm not sure if the button at the end is actually reachable, i game over'ed both times i played through, teased me right at the end.
My only real gripe is that I'm pretty certain i've heard the music in this before somewhere (can't place exactly where from,) which by itself is fine; but if it is, I would ask for you to consider opting out of the audio category. If you didn't make the music but made the sounds then i guess it's a little more complicated. If i'm wrong and you really did make the music, then very nice job with it. Nice job overall!

I, just, rated, all 5 stars.
This is the best ludum dare 41 game I've played so far.

And I'll explain why I putted 5 everywhere.

## 1 -> FUN
I had TONS of fun, the game is dynamic, fast and really good balanced. It's rewarding and the little text on the doggo shoot are super funny.

** 5 stars. **

## 2 -> INNOVATION
Tamagotchi + Run&Gun + Platformer. Nuff said.

** 5 stars. **

## 3-> THEME
You nailed the jam theme. You managed to fuse together two incompatible genres, and you did in a beautiful way.

** 5 stars. **

## 4-> GRAPHICS
I followed your twitch stream, and looked at your pixelart making. The results are incredible, well polished and colorful.

** 5 stars. **

## 5-> AUDIO
SONDTRACK WAS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. Also sound effects, the right choice.

** 5 stars. **

## 6-> HUMOR
The Doge-meme related strips and the tentacles with dumb looking are humoristic and hilarious, and even if you don't thought it about, also the dog-death animation is tragic but hilarious at the same time because you fed it with LOADS OF FOOD.
you game is really humoristic and well balanced!

** 5 stars. **

## 7-> MOOD
Not even a single aspect of your game breaks the mood. Everything is well orchestrated, balanced and well-choosed.
The mood is incredible "uptempo" and funny, and I loved it.

** 5 stars. **

## Overall? 5 STARS. don't you say?

# THANKS FOR MAKING THIS, AND FOR YOU HARD WORK!

And, if you want, check my game out, I'll be very happy!

Hey this is a very solid game! Thanks for having me play it! ;) The concept of taking care of your pet as you progress as an awesome action hero is great... apparently I suck at the game though, I didn't get very far, but the mechanics are solid... really the only thing that bothered me in this game was the loop got a bit repetetive, and some of the enemy graphics being just rescaled and super big looked out of place! Otherwise great submission! ;)

Haha, this is such a great idea. I love the combining of platformer with pet simulator. Similar to what my team had done. Great concept, lovely graphics and sound. I don't know if it was the browsers, but I would move forward, and left go of the key but the player would keep moving forward. Stuff like that made it hard to control. Overall great addition to the theme. Great job!

Awesome game, I just finished it. I loved the graphics and the music, very well done. The storyboard conveyed the story well and was a nice way of setting the scene and a great thing to end the game with. The little pupper was a great addition and the beam was a nice little bonus for when you take good care of him. I loved how the pup was the only way to get your health back, an interesting feature for sure.

I went into the end with too little health left and didn't know what to do when the tons of bullets headed my way, I figured it was part of the game and waited until I saw a shield. I kept walking and then died when the shield gave out, just mere centimeters away from the button! So frustrating!

I encountered one small bug where I got stuck after using a sword attack and I kept walking into the direction I had been facing, unable to move back, though I after using the sword attack again I got my movement back, I have only been able to replicate it once, but I'm still unsure as to why it happened.

Is standing on the sushi intentional? It's a little annoying when you want to pick it up and you just stand on it, having to walk to the side and then back to pick it up, especially when it's on a platform and you have to make your jump exactly right to be able to get the sushi.

Also.. what's the deal with the dog poop? Could you explain that bit to me?

All in all though, really good job and very enjoyable! You should think about expanding it, I'm quite sure there's a whole lot more you could do with it and I know for a fact that you could sell this! I'm looking forward to seeing a more expanded post jam version (gimme a big story with different levels, environments and weapons!)

25. Apr 2018 · 20:45 UTC
@Ruslana Ahh, yes, I did notice that, I thought it was a "negative" score like a "You stood in dogpoop, lol idiot". Or that maybe you could use them against your enemies, lol. Thanks for your answer though!

Really love the graphics on this one. You did a really good job. Although its is quite hard and takes player to get to used to the needs of the dog, it comes up as well combined and balanced game. Good job!

ps. sometimes after restart I have lost the dog for some reason, so the game ended quite soon as I was not able to feed anyone. Happened to me like 2 times across 10 attempts. Have you experienced this as well?

What I loved
* I had tons of fun, balanced, fast, run & gun, platformer combined. I love it
* You nailed the jam theme
* Artwork is on point!!

My Thoughts
* It’s so cool how nothing breaks the flow / mood of the game
* The strip animated way of the story telling is great!!
* no Azerty mode :confused:

Well polished, very nice animation and love that intro, a tad too long imo I would've preferred a quicker "get back to game" after you die but it's fine. Love the tamagochi feel of brutality on that part of the mechanics. Good job!

Flufsky is a very good boy, so I instantly love this game.

Okay, seriously this game is incredible. The graphics are super pretty, the platformer gameplay is great, and I love the idea of taking care of a pet during apocalyptic events. Only downside is the control scheme on the keyboard a bit weird, took me a while to get used to it.

But anyway, this is an incredible game for being made in 3 days. Congratulation !

Great graphics and music!

The idea is great as well, and the core gameplay is good, however there is a bit of a lack of feedback when filling or running out of bars so - having the bar light up and some animations for the characters when certain bars got filled up would increase the playability a lot.

Very impressive!

Wonderful idea, and very well executed. I struggled to understand the impact of the interactions with Flufsky for a few minutes - giving me the game over screen quite a few times. It would have been helpful to see +- numbers next to each bar when you give him food, pet him etc. But otherwise this is an excellent interpretation of the theme and a blast to play :) great work!

Cool game once you understood all the mechanics! Very cool for a first LD jam. It was an interesting mix of genres, but it was somewhat hard to understand what was going on because there were no instructions in the game description. I understand that you have to feed the cat but I was confused whether you could also eat to heal.

The different types of enemies had different behaviour but this was something you had to discover by yourself, which was not always so easy because you also needed to figure out all the other mechanics at the same time. It took some getting used to, therefore having a tutorial or instructions would help a lot, but after a while I think I got the hang of it. Still, quite a difficult game but I did enjoy it.

Overall, well done game. Cool mix of genres :smiley:

Really neat idea! I liked having to think about when to pause to take care of the pet between moments of action. I think if the character could duck and shoot, it would have helped a lot, mainly with dodging bullets and shooting the shorter tentacle enemies. I'm not sure if it was only an issue with the Web build, but the game seemed to keep running slower each time I got a game over.

Fun game, looked really nice as well!
The art was superb, it set the mood really well and there was quite a bit of visual feedback.
Felt rather polished and well designed even with the cat dragging the player down haha.

I just felt hindered by not being able to jump with the W key as space didnt feel natural to me. And the melee attack was difficult to hit on the smaller enemies resulting in the cat or me dying time after time, a bit of a leeway against the enemies wouldve been nice. But still I really like the game and loved the cat!

Nice guys, really well done in such a short amount!

Love the love for micro here. I can't keep up, but everything lines up just right. Maybe gimme the melee tutorial earlier? Love the companion play- hate the aliens (with a mindless fervor) and the music works well- is it procedural? The art and animations are fantastic- like Risk of Rain meets Day of the Tentacle. Can't wait to see where this goes next! Thanks for the fabulous game!

Art is great, and the idea is really interesting and executed pretty well. It could make for a good companion system in a fully fledged game, perhaps with a slower decline in needs.

Very good!!! Very fun and challenging. Taking care of this cat during an epic battle was not easy. I had problems with the collision of the projetis, but nothing that disrupts my experience with the game. The art is spectacular. The music and effects are great. Congratulations!

I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.

I hope you continue with the project.

When I shot the tentacle, I felt awesome! If you continue to develop this, when I saw the chicken leg meter, I didn't know how to make that meter increase.
