Ultimate Hero Simulator by antvelm

Hello world! We happily announce our game for Ludum Dare 41: Ultimate Hero Simulator. This is a mix of platformer and virtual pet genres. Our first LD, but we did our best to make the best game we can in 3 days :) It was very interesting and fun to participate.
The game is all about shooting enemies and looking after main character's lovely dog Flufsky! Quite hardcore but hopefuly everyone can make it to the end with enough courage... Just don't forget about the dog.
Check out timelaps how we did it:

The pure epicness you feel, when the beat starts at the start is undescribeable :D. I really love the artstyle, the colors perfectly match and the animations area adorable.
The interactions with the dog are kinda punishing, but i guess thats what they're for.
The sword attack felt a little bit weak for the animation, and some kind of hit confirmation would've been nice, but after all we really loved this game!!
Take a look on my pixelart game :smile: : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/vector-rabbits-slayer
I definitely want more of this. Great job
My only real gripe is that I'm pretty certain i've heard the music in this before somewhere (can't place exactly where from,) which by itself is fine; but if it is, I would ask for you to consider opting out of the audio category. If you didn't make the music but made the sounds then i guess it's a little more complicated. If i'm wrong and you really did make the music, then very nice job with it. Nice job overall!
This is the best ludum dare 41 game I've played so far.
And I'll explain why I putted 5 everywhere.
## 1 -> FUN
I had TONS of fun, the game is dynamic, fast and really good balanced. It's rewarding and the little text on the doggo shoot are super funny.
** 5 stars. **
## 2 -> INNOVATION
Tamagotchi + Run&Gun + Platformer. Nuff said.
** 5 stars. **
## 3-> THEME
You nailed the jam theme. You managed to fuse together two incompatible genres, and you did in a beautiful way.
** 5 stars. **
## 4-> GRAPHICS
I followed your twitch stream, and looked at your pixelart making. The results are incredible, well polished and colorful.
** 5 stars. **
## 5-> AUDIO
SONDTRACK WAS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. Also sound effects, the right choice.
** 5 stars. **
## 6-> HUMOR
The Doge-meme related strips and the tentacles with dumb looking are humoristic and hilarious, and even if you don't thought it about, also the dog-death animation is tragic but hilarious at the same time because you fed it with LOADS OF FOOD.
you game is really humoristic and well balanced!
** 5 stars. **
## 7-> MOOD
Not even a single aspect of your game breaks the mood. Everything is well orchestrated, balanced and well-choosed.
The mood is incredible "uptempo" and funny, and I loved it.
** 5 stars. **
## Overall? 5 STARS. don't you say?
# THANKS FOR MAKING THIS, AND FOR YOU HARD WORK!
And, if you want, check my game out, I'll be very happy!

Game is free, but if you whant to support us you can get our another game at Steam http://store.steampowered.com/app/550010 : )
Congrats
The gameover comes quite easily (STAY BACK DOGGO PLZ) but it keeps things entertaining.
And those graphics and audio are just so awesome!
I went into the end with too little health left and didn't know what to do when the tons of bullets headed my way, I figured it was part of the game and waited until I saw a shield. I kept walking and then died when the shield gave out, just mere centimeters away from the button! So frustrating!
I encountered one small bug where I got stuck after using a sword attack and I kept walking into the direction I had been facing, unable to move back, though I after using the sword attack again I got my movement back, I have only been able to replicate it once, but I'm still unsure as to why it happened.
Is standing on the sushi intentional? It's a little annoying when you want to pick it up and you just stand on it, having to walk to the side and then back to pick it up, especially when it's on a platform and you have to make your jump exactly right to be able to get the sushi.
Also.. what's the deal with the dog poop? Could you explain that bit to me?
All in all though, really good job and very enjoyable! You should think about expanding it, I'm quite sure there's a whole lot more you could do with it and I know for a fact that you could sell this! I'm looking forward to seeing a more expanded post jam version (gimme a big story with different levels, environments and weapons!)
ps. sometimes after restart I have lost the dog for some reason, so the game ended quite soon as I was not able to feed anyone. Happened to me like 2 times across 10 attempts. Have you experienced this as well?
What I loved
* I had tons of fun, balanced, fast, run & gun, platformer combined. I love it
* You nailed the jam theme
* Artwork is on point!!
My Thoughts
* It’s so cool how nothing breaks the flow / mood of the game
* The strip animated way of the story telling is great!!
* no Azerty mode :confused:
Thanks for making this & for all the effort you put into making this! I’d love for you to review my submission as well.

The only thing I would fix is the problem with standing ontop of food pickups.
So far the best game I played on this LD. Astonishing graphics, I really like the comic style introduction. Sound kicks ass. The theme is thoroughly matched, I find this very innovative. And I like the subtle humour (tentacles and all).
Okay, seriously this game is incredible. The graphics are super pretty, the platformer gameplay is great, and I love the idea of taking care of a pet during apocalyptic events. Only downside is the control scheme on the keyboard a bit weird, took me a while to get used to it.
But anyway, this is an incredible game for being made in 3 days. Congratulation !
The idea is great as well, and the core gameplay is good, however there is a bit of a lack of feedback when filling or running out of bars so - having the bar light up and some animations for the characters when certain bars got filled up would increase the playability a lot.
Very impressive!

The different types of enemies had different behaviour but this was something you had to discover by yourself, which was not always so easy because you also needed to figure out all the other mechanics at the same time. It took some getting used to, therefore having a tutorial or instructions would help a lot, but after a while I think I got the hang of it. Still, quite a difficult game but I did enjoy it.
Overall, well done game. Cool mix of genres :smiley:
Have a fish <3 🐟
The art was superb, it set the mood really well and there was quite a bit of visual feedback.
Felt rather polished and well designed even with the cat dragging the player down haha.
I just felt hindered by not being able to jump with the W key as space didnt feel natural to me. And the melee attack was difficult to hit on the smaller enemies resulting in the cat or me dying time after time, a bit of a leeway against the enemies wouldve been nice. But still I really like the game and loved the cat!
Nice guys, really well done in such a short amount!
what engine you use?
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.
