Squircle by mzhovnach

made by mzhovnach for LD 43 (JAM)

Play a little cute squirrel beast. Let it sacrefy all the snails on the level to get unlimited power!! Use LEFT and RIGHT ARROWS on your keyboard to control a squirell. Use E or SPACE to interact with objects. Have fun. photo2018-12-0107-24-40.png

Cool puzzle idea! The art is good too! But I have 2 issues with the game. Firstly, it's a bit difficult controlling the squirrel, especially if you rotate the boxes. The controls may get inverted or you'll have to press the right arrow key to move up etc. Maybe this is intentional, but I would have prefered if you could move up and down with the up/down arrow keys instead of left/right. Also if you collide with the snails they will shoot into the air. Maybe this is also intentional, but it looks a little buggy! And finally, the snails are very slow (I know, snails are slow) but it's kind of boring waiting 30 seconds for the snail to make a full loop through the box. My recommendation is that you expand the map (add more boxes) and make the game more fast paced! You've got a good base for a puzzle game but it needs to be improved on a bit further. Still, great job!

It is a bit difficult to control the squirrel, especially when crossing from one box to an adjacent box. I was a bit disoriented after each transition. Perhaps swapping boxes would be better on a deliberate key press? I had a few cases where I bounced off snails and did bit of an anti-gravity dance. Perhaps we could kick the snails or scoot them along a bit faster?

I could see this becoming pretty interesting with a tighter control scheme and some stages of increasing complexity and mechanics. I like the idea of playing with gravity in each compartment. This is a puzzle concept that can go places. Good amount of potential here if you keep iterating on it.

This could make for a great puzzle game! I agree with basically everything @fat-cat wrote. I would disallow the collision between squirrel and snails altogether (when they collided some of them suddenly moved to the middle of the "squircle")

Alternatively, you could make it so that the collision causes the snails to change direction.

@atium-addict Good idea, but we thought about some kind of rechargeable power-ups to cause snails for changing their direction.

Fun game except the controls are sort of weird.

A bit weird but also pretty fun little puzzle game. Both the graphics and music is good. The controls was okay, but they sometimes felt a bit weird. I would really have liked more then one level. But overall a fine LD game. Well done.

Wow this was interesting. The other comments are great and I will just say I loved the audio.

I like the title art :D I managed to throw all the snails from the third box into the second somehow on the first try but then it took me minutes to get them back once they fell back :D Good background audio.

Nice interpretation. Controls a a bit wooly though

Strange but beautiful game. Yes, the controls could be better like others said but still this has potential to be a full fledged game. Good work!

I love the atmosphere and the idea itself. It's really fun, maybe it would be better if the snails were faster and more levels would be cool as well :). But it is still a really good entry nevertheless.

Шикарно! Подозреваю летать на улитках не планировалось, но получилась вполне крутая фича))
Звук, атмосферка - 5 балов!
И титулка конечно, белко улитко движ!

I enjoyed it! Nice mechanic. It would have been nice to see more levels - starting on a something more minimal and then working up to the level that's currently there. Good job!

I'm interested in the story behind this squirrel. Why does it want to kill snails with fire? I'm not sure what the icons on the bottom left corner are supposed to do (or are they just visuals?) but I managed to solve the puzzle just fine and the controls felt alright to me (I played in Unity WebGL). The audio was nicely creepy, I had fun!
