Growing Cities by Igor KinGamer

[raw]
made by Igor KinGamer for LD 42 (JAM)

So you're an urban planning expert, right? Great!

Make those cities grow! Even if there isn't enough space. Good luck!

(Title screen has music, wait a little for it to play...)

Changelog

15/08: Fix a bug and some problems in the translation (made in the last moments) from PT-BR to EN
Buildings supported by the floor shouldn't be supported by other buildings.
The right panel remains cluttered. That will be fixed in a post-jam version. Please be patient.

20/08: Fix another bug
Buildings should be updated when one (but not all) of the buildings supporting them falls. Very little fix.

Funny game, and I really ran out of space, good concept!

Seemed to be a lot of bugs where buildings could only be placed floating in air, or destroyed buildings they weren't sitting on. Amusing concept. Maybe have some sort of triple town style system where buildings combine into better load bearing buildings?

@swift I hope you haven't seen something like this:

Don't know why GM:S does that... I ran the web build and it was like that, now I think it's ok. That's what you get when you don't test updates... At least with GM:S :grimacing:

Maybe that was the cause of the bugs you have seen?

I didn't know Triple Town, that could be interesting.

@sankacoffee51 @swift Thanks for your comments!

@swift I've just found another bug!

When a building falls, it keeps bearing the building above it, even if that building doesn't fall because it's supported by something else. But it doesn't look like that's what you're talking about.

Let's fix that...

Nice take on the theme! I dig the concept you came up with here. I haven't played an urban planning game since sim city :P
It would be nice if the resolution was scaled up a bit. Also the audio only plays in the left channel. If your sound effect files are mono they can easily be made stereo with a free app like audacity. I had fun playing!

Neat puzzle game! Really quick to pick up and understand the mechanics. As some others have said it would be nice if the viewport was a little bigger and also if there was some music.

Realy cool concept.
I didn't understood why my building were destroyed by others sometimes, but were totaly correct on others on my first run.
I just hate when the game give me a big building, but i just have the place to put a small house on the map.
Maybe add a way to stock one element, and switch or take back later, when it's a better time to use it.

Thanks all!

@balance686 I can't reproduce that audio issue... But I may do that in the next update anyway.

@rob-parker Yeah, I didn't have time to make music for the levels. The title screen has music, tough, you may have missed it if you clicked before it loaded.

@larnin The weight of a building is evenly distributed among buildings supporting it. I admit this looks weird when you place an additional "weak" building below something, I should probably change that.
You can discard with right click (this counts as destroying). I added this feature in the last moments, so this info is only "hidden" in the right panel...

funny game! I didn't understand the difference between small houses of different color at first. Maybe you can make it more clear on graphic like the wooden house? you did.

@lunardust Thanks! I'd blame the GUI, it's bad, I myself have a hard time understanding it , you can't even see the next building's name. But surely graphics could be more meaningful.

Took me a bit to understand what caused what, but it feels like a good complete game. Nice coding and design, and creating the different scenarios.

This is a super awesome submission! I liked the simple style, and the game play was very well designed. Awesome job implementing multiple levels also!

Am I meant to be able to stack houses on top of one another? I like the shaking of the buildings as they are put under pressure. Neat entry and credits to implementing multiple languages :)

@drums @thepiratenun @nowicu @imphenzia Thanks! All your feedback is really appreciated.

@imphenzia If the under house can bear it, yes =D But it looks like when it's possible isn't as clear as it should be.
