Your new job involves multiple colourful and dazzling tasks, such as: - Storing physical files as digital files on a server - Compressing files to save storage space - Buying new drives for more storage

WOW! Sounds really dope and cool and stuff!

Instructions (you should probably read):

  • Drag falling files and folders into the computer to be stored on the floppy disks.
  • If the MAXIMUM of 20 PHYSICAL FILES is reached, you will lose.
  • If ALL of the STORAGE is USED, you will lose.
  • If you FAIL to DRAG FILES into the computer, you will lose.
  • Last as long as possible.

Controls:

  • That mouse thing you have plugged in (hopefully).

!NOTE! The Windows version is recommended, as some random functions which are vital to gameplay do not work as intended in the HTML5 version.

Wow, nice game. One issue, reminds me too much like work, would be fun if that money dropping down was real! I can see a lot of work went into this, almost like you had to write an OS. What about turning the computer off ? Loved the intro screen effect and graphics.

Loved it. The music loop was very effectively compelling, and the gameplay was very well tuned.

This was really fun, though it's really hard. I would have loved an end game statistics screen that told me how I did or why the game ended. The game seems to have a hard cap of how long it can go on for, since the files still take up space even if they're compressed. It would be nice to see this game fleshed out in a kind of Papers, Please fashion where there's a day to day progression and perhaps there's something going on in the files that you're cleaning up.

For whatever reason, I can't move on after I buy a floppy disk during the tutorial scene? Am I missing something or is there a bug going on? I'll check back later once you reply to this.

@incobalt thanks for playing! I tried to make the gameplay last as long as possible by having bytes be multiplied by an increasing multiplier (along with money and such). If this was made into a full game, the player would have to go through shifts plus an endless mode.

@bustosman I thought I patched that bug. Ill look at it today and add an option to turn off the tutorial if you restart the game. Very sorry about this and thanks for playing!

@andre-van-zuydam @eatthepath thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Actually never mind, it's just there was nothing to tell me to click on an area below the monitor. I think it works fine now. So far, this is a pretty good game to play and I love how there's a timer for how long I can stay on the monitor while files are dropping. A very challenging game to play.

That was a lot of fun! gets very hectic when you have a lot of file to go through! I really like the minigames, it adds to the experience. A lot of fun. I wish once you get the toggle it was turned on by default. There was a lot of skill involved in managing everything and doing the minigames in time, very nice.

@bigbosserndog thanks for playing, great stream btw.

@stephan-shabalin does the HTML5 version not work?

@merpader Don't worry about it, thanks for playing!

This game is brilliant, I really love it. It was one of the ideas I thought about when I was brainstorming for this jam but I didn't go very deep into it. Your implementation is very good. One critical problem though was that I didn't know about the place of the floppies below the monitor and I kept thinking there must be something wrong, this can't be all :D It wasn't until I came here and read the comments that I found out about it. So I think it should be included even in the instruction in here if not in the tutorial.

Congratulations!

Oh wow love the game. Reminds me of Papers, Please. I was in a hectic mood as soon as that music started, ready to get to work and fail at the job. With a compelling story line this could easily be a commercial game.

Hey, I discovered a bug :D After playing for a long time the sound just stopped. Playing web here.

Also, I would recommend very much that the new files be at the top instead of the other way around especially when the UI is a bit buggy.

This game is so addictive :)

Couldn't figure out what to do with the compression screen. Cool idea and nice atmosphere with the graphics though.

The game bugs out on the HTML5 version when I try to scroll down on the computer so I tried the Windows version and I have to say this is the best game I've seen so far. The gameplay is fun, it rushes you so you don't ever get bored and the graphics, music and sound effects are superb. Congrats!

@furiouswitch Just went in and that should be patched now. Thanks for playing!

@dwemthy Thanks for playing! I'm not the best at tutorials and I shouldn't have left it until last, which is probably why it wasn't too clear.

@firepit-games Thanks so much!

@axkarth Sorry about the HTML5 version, the random functions used in most of the mechanics don't work in the browser version. Thanks for playing though!

Love everything about the game, there are a lot of games going with the minigames themes but your minigames are going very well with the whole thing. Very strong on the theme, I overall enjoyed everything. I kind wished there were some hidden gems in this, like some secret files somewhere haha. Post-jam maybe?

Pretty solid game! One complaint: the UI didn't make it clear how to use the compression screen for image files.

I really enjoyed this game a lot, but I noticed a few bugs. I didn't take off any points for these bugs though because they were either minor bugs or limited to the platform.

The first one wasn't so much of a bug as it was a misunderstanding of mechanics. When I first started, I clicked the monitor after only inserting one tutorial file, leading to a blank white screen. I couldn't figure out how to get out and had to restart. (I only learned the leaving mechanic, if it was present, after getting further into the tutorial) This isn't a bug, I just feel the menu could be more intuitive or maybe restrict the player from entering until all files are added.

The second issue is a bit more pressing though. There appears to be some sort of memory leak or leak of some kind in the browser version, where the program begins to slow down immensely (or at least the sound does). This doesn't seem to be a problem on the application, so it's probably just a limitation of the WebGL version of Unity.

Anyways, awesome game! One of my favorite things about this game was how insanely satisfying it felt to do any of the tasks. The screenshake, bitcrunched effects, and pixel particles all created an amazing and responsive experience that I was glad to have played. I could see this easily making it on Steam and being up there with Papers Please and other huge hits. Keep up the good work!

@chupachu thanks for the feedback, this really helps! And I’m glad you enjoyed it. I actually made this in Game Maker: Studio. And I was going to write about this in my post mortem, (the fact that I overlooked the drawbacks of HTML5 and didn’t really take time to change anything to support this platform). Thanks again for the feedback, I will be sure to take note on these!

Beautiful game. Tons of fun, nicely polished. It was a real pleasure to play it and to just improve your hard drives as much as possible. Good job!

This game was very well polished and the tutorial for me was well executed. I also liked the simplistic music and sound effects, along with the solid gameplay.

Is this intentional tho? I see it as a cool effect but just curious.

@darylsteak Yes sorry about that the HTML5 version doesn’t work very well I didn’t have time to optimise the game for the web export. The Windows version shouldn’t have this problem. Thanks for playing though!

It's funny how a tedious thing can be fun with the right mood. Some element of the interface could have been a bit more intuitive like exiting the desktop. And the scroll scroll my webpage instead of the explorer. Still, amazing job!

Nice game and nice concept. Would be great if there is an option to skip tutorial. And the game crashes if you click randomly during tutorial. Game crash when one of the new large files showed up (not sure if it was a game over) but interface was not responding.
