made by super8bitrafa for LD 42 (COMPO)

As the World Burns was a game submitted for Ludum Dare 42 by Super8BitRafa, a game-maker whose goal for 2018 was to make 50 video game prototypes (about one per week). In this top-down shooter, you must defeat the deadly slimes as flames engulf your surroundings.

I have added a Kongregate version where I will be adding to and fixing the game. New updates daily. All your suggestions will be taken into account.

the game was pretty interesting and fun. some things though, i felt the camera tug me after moving to the far left, not sure if thats a feature or a bug. when we move to another level please dont take away are power ups, let us continue to grow stronger. the fact that i was able to spam shooting for a bit, then had to go back to spamming my mouse button was a bummer. i really wish there was a shooting when the mouse button was held down. but over all the game was pretty good, nice job

Wow the game is intense! Great mechanics and flow of the game, really like the precise controls and fast action. Music was a great match, overall one of the funnest experience I had so far this LD!

Also thanks for making the game playable in the browser!

Music and sfx fit perfectly. Really makes this game shine, 5 stars for audio. Fun to play.
Losing the gun upgrade after level change made me sad though

Fast and intense, I love this. Using the fire to your advantage makes it a pretty interesting dynamic. Great job!

Nice game! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/VOykmSuQEhg

This is definitely one of my favorite compo games I've played! I absolutely love it 😄! The art style is especially good, and I really like the music! While I do wish there was more feedback when an enemy gets hit (and maybe lower the enemy hp a bit), this game is still stunning! Although you should make it so your bullets can put out the fire, because if you get trapped in a room you just have to kill yourself (which seems a bit awkward).

I like this game. I had some trouble figuring out what to do. It's not clear that the baddies can die on their own or that that is the objective, so for a while the level would just seem to change randomly. I like the machine gun upgrade, wish all the weapons had auto fire.

Really cool execution overall.

This game is really fun. I love how fast paced and hectic it feels. The constantly encroaching fire really puts the pressure on you to hurry up, and the rad background music really adds to that feeling. On top of that, I also like the colorful pixel art style. I don't really have many complaints for this one, it's just a really solid, fun game. Amazing work!

Fast pacing cool game. Some times a enemy overlays an obstacle or other enemies making hard to shot.
Some screenshake will make this game overpowered

THe weapons were really satisfying to use, and the enemies were not too easy. THe positioning of the coins also added some challenge - getting the ones furthes from the spawn was a bit difficult. Overall really fun game!

I honestly have no complaints about this game. It was amazing, and I enjoyed every last second of it. The machine gun was particularly enjoyable. Great job dude! I would play this any time!

I liked this one a lot ! It's nothing very new but it does what it does well ! The slimes are cute, the SFX works great, the controls are responsive.
What it lacks : health and hit feedback.

I really like the juiciness of the game controls! Sounds and visual effects are really on the spot!

A next level door like in Nuclear throne would have been really nice. You miss coins if you kill all the enemies before you collect all coins. Also the character should keep the weapon to the next level.

I really enjoyed playing this game! Thank you for making it!

Something about the movement and camera felt off. Thinking about it, I'd say I feel this way because the player movement is not very 'immediate' (acceleration too low?), and that the camera seems to lock onto a position much further away than my mouse cursor is.

In spite of this... I really enjoyed this game! The stronger guns were enjoyable to play, the fire filling the levels was a nice mechanic, and there were lots of nice bits of polish here and there (e.g. weapon pickup) that made it really sing. I think this will place very well indeed!

En enjoyable pick up and play top down shooter. Not very innovative, however, and the theme is only marginally present. The flames to devour the environment over time, yes, however, this is the typical "boulder is chasing me" mechanic.

One more thing, I found the game very easy to go through, yet, I died unexpectedly once when touching the fire. I wasn't able to clearly determine where my HP were and make decisions according to my health status.

Other than that, I had fun playing it.

fast paced shooting game with a very juicy shooting animation. I like that when you shoot at once point, the bullet goes out in a slightly different angle to each other, making it very realistic and that actually does a favor for players not to move their cursor back and forth to get a bullet distribution on a direction. That said, live the shooting animation, the art work. A solid entry, good job!

Liked fast-paced and satisfying gameplay and simple but effective graphics.

Later in the game last blue slime decided to stuck inside the house out of reach of my bullets, almost all screen got covered in fire because of that. Also some indication of taking damage would be nice.

This was ABSOLUTE CHAOS!!! I loved it. The audio was a bit too ear-rapey though. Maybe make it quieter or smthn?

This is the game in which very nice interact with world through the shooting. Specially or not, but you did everything according to the rules of a wonderful video "The art of screen shake" and it's cool. Good work!

Solid game! I especially liked the use of the theme and the sound. The difficulty level was good for me; I ultimately got caught in a room with no way out due to the fire, and got 15425 points.
