ShootEm? by Merrol

[raw]
made by Merrol for LD 41 (JAM)

So, a Singleplayer + Multiplayer shooter game. I bet you don't see that often.

I am quite happy how it turned out in the end. Enjoy it and let me now in the comments if you liked it :)

Hey
Good game, i like the idea! But there are some cons. First of all make it a little more interesting, and more jokes. And be quicker, it's a bit boring to wait for the answer sometimes. But the idea and the chatting system is really good. You can make a good game with this!

@cenullum You don't need friends to play this game! It's singleplayer (as well as multiplayer, you'll see). Try it out, and let me know what you think!

Cool base for a game. The shooting is fun and the movement feels great.

I think I spent more time chatting that what I would care to admit! Really cool concept.

Simple, but fun game. I like the meta narrative. You can do a lot with that!

Couple criticisms would be quicker chat responses, and more narrative.

As I said to you. Really cool. :D
By the way, the shooting and moving backwards reminds me of a part in The Biginners Guide. Do you know this? It's a game from the Stanley Parable maker.
When I think back it's really interesting that at first you talk as an instructor to me, but you are not more there, you are only a shadow of the past because you only have recorded your writing and than you are self writes to me and you are real again. Really strange. :D

As a streamer, this blew my mind. I don't want to spoil too much but i went into it with certain expectations and it completely and utterly subverted said expectations. For sure one of the most fun gaming experiences I have had in recent years.

Was a good time, was confused at first but it was really fun. Backwards propulsion was probably the best thing ever. Other things I won't spoil. Game is fun, play it.

This was honestly the best game I've played so far. What a brilliant concept! If anyone is unsure of trying this, banish that thought and just play it. Game feel is so important and so understated in most of these submissions, but you hit the nail on the head! I really admire your dedication! I really hope you get that #1 spot somewhere. This is insane! Like actually insane. I don't even understand what could possess a person to make a game like this. I am very happy I got to play this game. What an unique experience!

This is honestly one of the most fun jam games I played! I thought the multiplayer/singleplayer twist was really interesting and innovative, the movement mechanics were immense fun and I thought the interaction was hilarious! Thanks for stopping by the stream and playing it with me =)

This was awesome haha. Totally unexpected. And to do what you're doing takes some serious commitment. I'm always way too tired after the jam to do anything other than sleep/netflix and play other games.

First 5 stars of fun I've given in this LD so far. Awesome job, and awesome job continuing to commit to it affter the jam ended.

I personally am not usually a fan of DoF but in this game it worked nicely. Although the bullets should have either dissapeared on contact or had some sort of exit animation/effect. Also sometimes after you kill the enemy you can see him teleport away. Small things but I can't find anything else to criticize so good job ;)

Completely took me by suprise. This is exactly my kind of game! I've never made real friends with an NPC before but today is the day.
I mean reeeeeaally would have been better as a multiplayer but like, scope, you know?

Thank you for joining us in the stream (https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames). I'm sorry that you didn't get to see us play your game, you'll have to watch the playback. I feel like I said everything I wanted to say in the stream. Thanks for sharing your game.

Nice game. Although the design is very simple, It is fun to experiment with the mechanics in it and I really like the lighting. The controls are also nice and the rebound idea, while not new, is so much fun to experiment with in here. It is nice to see a LD game with an in-game tutorial but I think it would be better to make it wait for a key or click instead of progressing on it's own, since it can be a bit fast in case you like try things first before reading the whole tutorial. I really think it will be fun when it become a full fledged multiplayer game. Great job.

Even if they end up not being human I would still vote for them for president.

This was a great experience. Thanks!

Edit - Small thing, but during the tutorial the last word was getting cut off on my screen. I could see it start to get typed, but then it would disappear.

Short and cool little experience! The narrative you had was cool, I am kinda sad, that it was soo short. Nice job with the graphics! I wish there was a bit more too it, because the game feels so smooth.

I don't get it. So a text narrator tells you to move around and shoot and then you are stuck in a room?

EDIT: Think I get it now, you just need some time to take it all in

You know me? I just played with you... (I'm "Mister Genius")

That's such an amazing idea, I'm so fascinated.

Only one thing: In the beginning, the text box on the top doesn't always show everything what it should show.

At first I was all :unamused: but by the end I was all :open_mouth:

Still not exactly sure what happened... I don't want to give away the surprise, but I also want answers!
