BACKGROUND:

My solo/compo entry for Ludum Dare 43 ("Sacrifices Must Be Made").

I decided to break away from my usual 2D platformer style and do a rhythm based game, which I haven't done before. I was hoping to implement an online leaderboard for the game, but didn't have enough time (48 hours goes by too quickly). If I have time in the future I may revisit the game and add that in at a later date. Ultimately I probably won't do another rhythm based game again since I don't feel like it gave me much freedom in the way of game mechanics, but it was still a fun project.

GAMEPLAY:

In the game, goats and people are randomly spawned to the beat of the music, and you have to either bless or sacrifice them based on the orientation of the cross (upright = bless humans/sacrifice goats, upside down = bless goats/sacrifice humans).

Hope you all like it!

CONTROLS:

F - Bless

J - Sacrifice

Interesting idea. Certainly a brain teaser when it inverts. Took 2 or 3 times before my brain could process.

Cute interpretation of the theme and great job on music!

The game however was not quite there for me. It was not really challenging or interesting and got extremely repetetive after a while.

@funkyjive thanks for playing!

@boltkey thanks for playing, but I wish your feedback had been a bit more constructive/useful. For the record though, I generally tend to dislike rhythm games for the very reasons you mentioned, so I'm not shocked really haha :smile: just wanted to try something new and outside of my comfort zone a bit.

Fun! I love the art and the music. The idea of switch was really cool and well executed. However, it feels like there wasn't a lot done with the music. For instance, switching the orientation in time with the music or speeding up/slowing down the tempo at times would have been cool to switch up gameplay. Overall, very enjoyable considering it's your first crack at a rhythm game.

@callavicka ooo yeah that would've been a good idea. I had a bunch of different ideas rolling around in my head regarding what I wanted to do to expand on the game mechanics, but just didn't really have the time. I wasted a lot of time debugging problems with the synchronization of music + user interaction, and I don't feel like the end result really justifies the time I spent on it. In any case, thanks for playing!

Music is great! My strategy is to spam the button as the human or goat passes by.
