Construction Pit by TheSomeoneXD

"Hey Bill! Come 'ere!"
That was the line that sealed your fate when you fell down the construction pit. If only he knew how to make a proper bridge. And those steel blocks didn't fall onto the bridge that your "friend" also placed carelessly up on the tower.
Well, now you have to get out. Luckily, and unluckily, more's falling down and you can climb back up, but also get crushed.
Burn through the metal, and climb your way up the pit in this tight arcade experience! Don't run out of space to move, or get trapped and face a literal steel block in your face.

The concept is brilliant, and the music is something straight out of 30 years ago. Did you write it.
All in all, excellent game.
Oh, and props for including an in-game cutscene.
@drums I'll probably raise the speed for the character in a post-jam build.
@neverdusk Maybe Bill was just cooler because he can use a flamethrower, and the dude on the right is jealous. Who knows?
@micahtron Also, yes! I wrote all the music myself in FamiTracker, an NES music maker of sorts. I'm learning music theory right now too. Glad it worked out. Also, thanks for the cut-scene complement! It was my first time doing it, and I'm surprised the system didn't break entirely when making it.
Audio is spot on. Thought it was very fitting for the game.
I did not know the reason for those pickup items in the level though - Or i didnt pay much attention to them.
As for the positives, this game plays well despite a somewhat loose platforming controls and a very tiny and floaty jump. I really appreciate that you made a checkpoint at the bottom so you wont have to go through the beginning every time you die. The only problem is that I've collected gems on the left side right away before even picking up the flamethrower. But they are respawning too after my character respawns even though technically I had already collected them by the time of the checkpoint.
Overall it's a small and fun game with a good sense of humor.
Yeah, the crystals are just a collectable without too much point except something to go for if you want, like Celeste's strawberries. Although I definitely didn't have a strong execution.
I also know the bug where you float up under a block! Wish I knew how to fix it, but if I know, that's definitely a priority on a post-jam version.
I also like the sounds effect and the music they do a really good job.
as well with the Graphics of the game makes it more complete.
still, I have some question to ask.
What are those gems doing?? were they meant for some extra points?
and can you make the movement a little bit faster?
@annie-owl I was wondering how'd I'd end the game when you get to the top, and I was thinking that there could be a bridge that fell. I figured that the bridge could be built by some dude, and you get your revenge when you reach the top!
@dragongino Glad you thought it was fun! The gems again really don't do much, sadly. I hope I can add some functionality though. Power-ups sound like a good idea right now, actually.
@ryanjavanshir Good eye with the sparks from the crates! It was the first time I actually really did anything interesting with animation with pixel art. In fact, this was my first time doing pixel art for any completed game. Glad you also enjoyed the music! Really happy how that worked out in the short amount of time I had.
@aterlamia I'm thinking that I could have some "smart" spawner where it detects the position of the player, then builds on that. And I don't think I want to add more sound, it's loud enough as it was as you said! :joy: I'll definitely do some mixing next time.
@iballs Damn right it is
The things I would improve are mostly connected with the fluid controls and collisions, which I think were a bit harsh (doing -2 pixels on each block would be perfect to not die out of some surprise corner collision somewhere). Also, I would appreciate if movement was a bit faster. Also, screw that guy on the other side. :<
And screw that guy on the other side yep :joy:
