Puzzle Progress Prototype by saucygames

[raw]
made by saucygames for LD 40 (COMPO)

Ludum Dare 40 Compo entry. Theme "The more you have, the worse it is". Made a puzzle game where the objective is to get the gold block to land on to the green trigger in the least amount of turns possible, each phase (puzzle) introduces a new block mechanic and also increases the number of gold blocks in the puzzle.

It is a very early prototype of the game of course. set it up as more of a demo to try out the games features and we will be considering continuing this further as a potential mobile game idea.

Edit 1* There is a known bug with the gold blocks respawning after they have already fallen, since there is no trigger event related with the green buttons, if you land a gold block on the green just count that gold block as complete and disregard the respawn.

Don't know if its intended, but one of my yellow blocks didn't snap to a grid and behaved like a rigid body, rotating and falling. It snapped when I made a move afterwards, but it was a little unpredictable where it would land. Otherwise would actually like to play it on mobile, since I like my puzzle games and this one has cool concept.

Good start to a puzzle mechanic. One thing that should be noted is that there is "gravity". Took me a second to realize that. I thought I was playing "top down", but rather it's from the "side".

Also a bit stressful with those blue blocks eating up the grey. Wasn't sure their interaction with the gold blocks. Looks like they can't eat them, but that the red blocks can blow up the gold.

Nice entry!

Very interesting puzzle, needs work though. There are certain movements that make the cubes (that at first thought they were squares) to rotate in their z axis. You can still make them fall to the green bar but it will take you more movements because they get stuck.

Interesting mechanic, but a few bugs. I didn't figure out how to get moving quickly enough to avoid the red block blowing up my yellow ones. Guess I'm no good at it :-)
I also had a block stuck at some point. In Unity you can block the physics of an object to rotate around a certain axis which should help.

@interface @xacur I didn't notice the gold block getting stuck in testing so thanks for pointing out, should be fixed now.

A personal game idea, I haven't seen a puzzle game like that (in Ludum Dare) before! However, it felt a little unpolished (like moving those rectangles, why cannot I use just mouse, why I have to first select them and then use arrow keys?), but that didn't bother me very much: the idea is the most important.

Nice Little Game :-) Mechanics remind me of those old 3x3 sliding puzzles where you have to complete a picture. I don't really understand by what logic the Blue
stones move though. Also, Reload Scene seems to always restart Scene 1, not the scene currrently selected.
Great Job, definitely has potential to be further developed into a full puzzle game!

@bewelge Thank you, the blue blocks just pick a random direction to move in, if it is not null they will eat whatever is in their way lol and everything was in one scene, I need to set it up so that it saves the score and reloads your current phase. I'll add that update in today.

@jani-nykanen I thought it was a neat idea to click and then move with the keyboard I didn't really consider an only mouse controls way to go about it, I will add that in though if this game gets taken further, thank you for the feedback.

It took me a bit to figure out what was going on even after reading the instructions, but that might be because of the placeholder artwork. To be honest, I didn't like the blue blocks since I never knew which direction they were moving in. There were several times I had to eat a few turns waiting for a blue block to get out of the way. I think perhaps having them move in a predictable manner would both increase the fun of the game and also allow for a repeatable optimal solution rather than relying on random chance. This is a good start for a mobile puzzle game.

Took me a little while to understand how to move the blocks. Could definitely use some polish there. I like the simplicity of the rules and the complexity of the puzzles. Clever idea.

Interesting idea. Seems the last level depends a lot on luck of which way the blue ones move though, I was not able to solve it :(.

I feel it'd be better if the blue blocks moved in some deterministic way. Their random motion seemed to limit how much I could really plan/think about my moves.

solid idea. with more polish this could be a funny evening.

A bit too short but good ideas for puzzle games, nice!

Nice idea for the puzzle, also clear meaning for the LD#40 topic, good job!

Very interesting take on a puzzle game. After the first phase I thought this was going to be a simple puzzle game, but the blue and red blocks made it much more interesting

Puzzles aren't really my thing, but it seems to be some nice ideas here. With some polishing, could be fun to play. The main points for improvement, in my opinion should be the controls and the graphics (even if you keep using placeholder graphics, try to make their meaning somehow more clear; I was constantly thinking things like "is this thing an empty space?")

Nice job, cool take on the theme with some interesting mechanics

Interesting concept. I wish it was a little bit more responsive though. I'm spending too much time thinking about every move instead of just feeling the way it works.
