The Music

The music chosen this time is also creative commons done by the awesome artist by the name of Jahzzar that I found at freemusicarchive

If you wanna download the tracks or listen to more of his music check out the links below:

Jahzzar : http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Jahzzar/

Menu theme : http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Jahzzar/SmokeFactory/Thelast_ones

Gameplay theme : http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Jahzzar/Blindedbydust/Roadsthatburnedourboots

The results

Done mainly using Unity3D, Photoshop/Paint and Blender it has proven to be quite a challenge for me in order to achive certain objectives. Nonetheless it was great fun learning new stuff and trying out some ideas.

The theme was not something I really liked so the idea that came out to me was to actually "run out of space to cover". With that in mind I decided to make an approach to the Cabal/Blood Bros arcade games but with a different perspective and in 3D.

As of now you can either download the game (recommended option) or try out the WebGL version, which won't be as good performance wise though.

Overall I'm pleased with the final results and will certainly work on the game in the future once I get the time. As always, I think there's room for improvement so I'll probably work on that first, adding more features and bug solving.

The Highscore

Think you can beat mine? Go ahead an prove it, post your score xD

@illabom @beanslasher sorry about that, seems I actually forgot to set the itch page as public. Don't really use it much so I didn't notice.
I just went back and fixed it. It should be visible right now. Thanks for telling me :)

Unique graphics and interesting music! Goat Guy seems like a cool dude. Sometimes the text was a bit hard to read (it seemed like words like "Game Over" were getting cut off at the top), but otherwise the game functioned well. Great job!

@heidi thanks!
I tried to go with a goofy kind of graffiti font and that one kind of worked being CC0 and all that but yeah, the Es and some other letter were a bit weird so I'll keep an eye out for something better in the future :)

Good work in the cohesive graphics and the animations! I like the idea and fits well on the theme. As a minor complaint, I think that with some work on the camera when aiming at the sides and maybe enabling transparency when the aim is over Goat Guy the gameplay can be enhanced. Otherwise, a solid entry. Congratulations!

The game was fun even though I stink at it! I found myself getting overwhelmed really quickly, so I wonder what a good score for this game is? I like the graphics and concept, would like it if I could look around... I'll call them the beater cops... when they came up to me, I could outrun them for a while, but once they were in the foreground, all I could do was shake them, too hard to shoot once they got that close. Overall, nice game!

Funny game (good gameplay with keyboard/mouse, but with x-box controller, aim problem and can't fire). Appreciate the mood from this game.

Wow, so good to see the webgl version. The music is great. Mechanism is simple but addictive. Stylized models and fonts are another shining spot. But wondering about whether player can turn his/her sight to the enemy aimed.

PS: Do you mind to upload a link to download the background music? I really enjoyed it!

Thanks @korso ! I'll definetly will look into that. I run out of time so I had to go for the standard cinemachine settings regarding camera controls. Actually moving the character properly while aiming turned out to be a huge pain in the ass since it messed up animations and stuff so I had to sacrifice that feature and couldn't look for a proper shader or try to implement something.

Hi there @grahhhhhhhhh . A good/decent score would be around 3000 or so since it's what I get most of the time.
Melee guys (cops in black) are the ones you really need to watch out for, they are basically there to overwhelm you and letting them go basically means game over for you (you can still run in circles and try to shoot them once they get close enough to you to hit you ;) )
Since the idea I had in mind was something like Cabal/blood bros ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOH_D_DE9IA ) + some TPS touches and 3D, looking around was something I sacrificed. I'll probably work on the game some more and plan to actually do a TPS variant with a bigger city and stuff once I get the time.

Glad you like it @bismark . Sadly Xbox controllers are not supported ( I don't own an Xbox or a controller, only a PS4 so that's what I got to work with ) as the right stick axis are not the same as the DS4 on Unity.

Hi @guardhei just like I explained to @grahhhhhhhhh sadly looking around was something that did not fit what I wanted to do but I'll probably work on a full TPS with this as a base at some point :)
I added the music to the game page since it's CC and I forgot to name the author so you can just check out his page at freemusicarchive and grab what you want

Wololo @matu glad you like it!

Thanks to everyone that played it and if you feel like doing it again go ahead and post you highscore, try to beat mine, if you can... xD

Cheers!

- I like the graphics / models and color pallete
Using the joystick, i was unable to move the crosshairs around.
I feel like the player is taking up too much of the screen too - I feel like playing it in first person mode.
Either way, I liked your take on a shooter game. :thumbsup:

@mza thanks for playing and the comments.

As for the joystick... let me guess, Xbox controller? Uses different axis for the right stick than the PS4 one so there's nothing I can do to fix that. Besides I don't own an Xbox controller so I wouldn't be able to test it and just work with what I have.
I now I'm in a minority here, but I don't use an Xbox controller, never have for playing games so I don't really own one that I can use for programming :(

This game was actually very fun ! I liked the 3d models, the low poly aspect. The music and sound effects were pretty good ! The gameplay was good and the relation for the theme was interesting.

Eventually I got some issues using my joystick but I don't have a PS4 controller so that's not a problem and I used the keyboard & my mouse. Maybe the only problem i had with the controll then is that sometimes, the camera was behind the player wich made me unable to see what was going on :/ But that didn't happened too often so it was fine !

Great entry, congrats ! :D

Really fun! I like the sounds and character choice. I enjoyed having to dance around baton-wielding cops while trying to shoot those in the back. Managed to get 3600 before being taken out by a single stray bullet from my right blind-spot (covered by a pillar). Great game!

I enjoyed this, great graphics (though your font choice could use a little work) fun fast paced action that plays smoothly. I would preferred if I could have adjusted the camera a little more as your character takes up a little too much of the screen but the breaking obstacles and escalating challenge were well implemented. Awesome music. Shame I couldn't see how this met the theme at all or I would have rated it higher.

@rustymonky @deniskazantsev @historymaker118 thank you for playing!

@historymaker118 well, you are trapped, surrounded by the police and you are running out of cover and places to hide, that's how you are "running out of space", space to hide, of course xD

@raccoon-js @zicboy @anubhav-kashyap @saoi-games thanks for playing!

@saoi-games I can see you ran into a common issue, using an Xbox controller instead of a DS4. I don't have an Xbox one so there's nothing I can do to actually add support, especially since right stick works completly different. Sadly I run out of time to implement controller support for the main menu properly.
The right click was so you wouldn't skip the game over screen easily.
I tried to implement the theme with the covers, which eventually get destroyed so you run out of space to hide and run away.

It's a highscore game so there's no actual end to it.
The main gameplay concept it's basically taken from Cabal/Blood Bros, old arcade games

Just wanted to point out this :)
Oh, and the animations are all taken from the mixamo website, I fact it's written under the dancing animation xP
