Game of Cows by greysphere
You did it!
You've finally moved to the ecofriendly, offgrid, permaculture homestead you've always dreamed of. A place to live off the land, in harmony with nature. But,
WINTER IS COMING...
and you have no TV to watch Game of Thrones!!!
Can you turn the limited daylight you have left into a productive farm and afford a new Television, before the New Season arrives?!?

I got 44 coins when winter arrived, but not enough for a tv :(
What I enjoyed:
- After a few days of playing I understand to mechanic of the game well enough to enjoy it and want to reach the end.
- The graphics and music a fitting well the atmosphere of the game.
- Farming and growing cows! Yheaaaa :D
- High quality coding, no bug at all
- Good intuitive UI
What I disliked a bit:
- The locked windows resolution, the game was very small on my computer, and resizing the windows cause the game to crop the top and bottom of the map
- The help screen, I feel you could split the help screen in multiple page, so it's not all at once, and the player knows where to look first.
- I didn't understand why I was loosing money each day, but I guess that's life
Overall this is a really cool game! Thanks and good work!
-- The land is ploughed and full of seeds.
I finished with 36 coins I think? I didn't do well at all but I defintely wasted my first few days plodding around.
It's a really good thing you included that help screen! The polish is great here, the graphics are good an while the SFX are basic, they do their job well too.
Impressive jam entry for sure!
I apparently suck at farming. No special TVs for me!
Suggestions: I didn't understand for a little while that I had to drag cards to the board to plant them. Maybe make that more clear?
Bugs: If you click on your resources (or anywhere on the HUD that isn't a button) it tries to move you there. This is a really small thing, but it would feel cleaner if clicks on the HUD were ignored.
Other than that the UI is great, good looking and clean. The help screen is nice to have, although a bit more information would have been nice (actually took me some time to realize how to move around, etc.!)
Overall I voted this game the highest of the games I've played so far. Great job - I love it! :D
re: resolution. Yeah seems a bit messed when maximizing/fullscreen. But should work with drag-resizing.
re: help. Yeah a weak point. I rushed to get even what's in there done. Definitely could be improved.
re: dragging cards. Yep, I agree that's not obvious (and a few playtests I've done post jam do too!). I think some little text popups at the right time would go a long way.
re: music. Yeah I didn't do any music, not my strong suit. The ambient track is made from an 'nature-soundscape-generator' online, lol.
re: hud-click. Yeah oops, yeah clicks on the hud shouldn't do anything.
re: hand-clog. Yeah, the next thing on my to do list was add a 'discard' option. Trashing the whole hand might be even better cause it encourages you to deal with what you have a bit more.
re: fields. The field affects any grain/vege planted on top of it.
The graphics and overall aesthetic are great.
I really enjoyed most of the mechanics. My only gripe was I got so many tools, but could only hold onto 2. I ended up discarding one, then wishing I hadn't later. I wish there was like a 'tool shed' where you could store tools you'd already bought, and have access to them if your play style changes.
The last thing, and this could just be my incompetence, was I couldn't figure out how to add my name to the leader-board. I got a 67, which was good for like 5th place, but I couldn't seem to enter any letters with the keyboard, or scroll though an alphabet like old arcade games. Is the leaderboard actually online? Or just hardcoded into the game?
Overall, one of the best games I've played so far. Great job!
The graphics were fitting and the sounds worked well with everything else. The point I stopped at, I still hadn't seen any stone or metal/iron so I was waiting on that but it didn't seem like I'd be getting any any time soon so I stopped, but it was a nice experience.
Took me a while to realize the market gave me more cards, so then I started building everything just to get it out of my hand to get more cards at the market, but then I got stuck with cards I didn't want (a couple cows that required tons of grass and I had already relinquished my scythe for a plow, but then of course I never saw another crop after that :( ). Losing an earlier tool and then randomly having that be the only tool that can help me later was annoying, so maybe it would be better to have tools be permanent, but you just choose 1 to be active for any given day (or, even you randomly get 1-2 of your unlocked tools each day).
