Something is Wrong with this Museum by Allthebees

[raw]
made by Allthebees for LD36 (JAM)
“Something is wrong with this museum” is a story-led platformer. It’s also a bit weird. Explore the many rooms of the museum, broaden your cultural horizons, and try not to die.
TRY TO COLLECT all of the hidden historical artefacts
BE MILDLY DISAPPOINTED by the badly-drawn unfinished cutscenes
PLEASE TRY TO AVOID getting your blood on the paintings

Controls:
WASD/ arrow keys/ space to interact and operate menus.
The full game takes between 10 and 20 minutes.

Music:

Bug Fix Note:

Hey thanks everyone for the great comments! I have fixed a few of the smaller bugs and attempted to fix the crash bug, but sadly I can't replicate it in any way but I tried a possible fix.

If you get a crash, please post the error message as part of your comment to help us out, thanks again!

Got an out of memory error twice :(.
Wich is weird because i still had a lot of ressource left.

First time in the vault (after the lava) and the second time entering the vault.

But from what I've played it was a really good experience, loved the music, the humor and the artstyle (the unfinished look from the cutscenes wasn't a problem at all).

Texts aren't easy to read.
Really good music though, nice game.

Lovely titlescreen, liked the humor, and overall the art is wonderful.

Simple and not overly difficult.

Sadly the game crashed on me after 1 minute of play, but I liked the art and the controls. Both were really nice

The platforming was tight and fun,the graphics were appealing, and the joke writing was pretty funny as well. I r8 8/8 m8.

It's great to see such complete game here. The intro, pixel art, music and humor are really well done. Controls are super smooth (crucial thing for a platformer!). Loved the comics and paintings! :D You've got some solid skills, guys! Too bad it crashed after "The end?" for me (or was it on purpose?).

This game was amazing, especially the cut scene art. the controls were great and the difficulty of the game felt like a good ramp. I had quite the chuckle at the pixelized art pieces and the humor of the "artifacts". The backwards controls on a few levels were quite sadistic which i loved. The controls paired with the music and humor made for an all alround great game.

My one complaint was for the first zone the red background was quite jarring and hurt my eyes a bit. but once it became teal it was much more enjoyable.

Nice work.
It is funny how different the game itself and artworks are. The game is quite happy (even with sawblades), and the graphics are a little horrorific.

The control is special too. The basic jump make platforming easy, but the wall jump is hard to manage.

The text is quite cool, especially items description.

The game crashed on the "The End ?" screen. It seems that you tried to read something that was not set.

Great fun. Was it meant to crash at "The End?"?

Gotta love the humor, and the music is also amazingly connected with the theme, overall a very pleasant game, good job

Love the "futuristic" intro screen but didn't really match up with the rest of the style. I too agree about the microwaves and diappointing lasagne though. Really funny. Unfortunately, I sucked at wall jumping to get the key to unlock the door and had to give up after about five minutes of trying.

The 'lounge museum music' was spot-on!

I really hate you. All the art was nice and i dont know how you managed to do all this in 72 hours. But i still hate you. The gameplay was nice though.

Art is nice, it has a funny background too. But I think the best is the platformer design, I like the idea of playing upside-down, and you managed to balance well its difficulty while keeping the player wanting to try it again and again. Seriously, I died a lot of times, but I didn't stop playing until I managed to beat it xD Great job!

Loved the cheeky writing. More than decent platforming and suprisingly smart checkpointing, except in those last two levels. Those last two god damn levels.

Also I think there's something seriously wrong with your options menu - I don't see any FOV-sliders.

I like the story and the funny descriptions of ancient technologies ^^
Some possible improvement :
Circular saws hitbox is too wide.
The gameplay is a bit slick.
The hero almost doing a split while jumping can be confusing when jumping on a narrow platform.

I really enjoyed playing the game.
Keep the good work !

Good job on this one! Looks good and feels very complete. I liked that the game got a little "darker" after the beginning.

A nice little platformer! It ends kind of abruptly, but it was decent while it lasted. My major complaint is that I felt like there was a pretty big disconnect between the cutscene and in-game art styles. They both looked good on their own, but they didn't blend very well in my opinion.

It's great we have games like this. Straight motivation for all of us and well made example.

Reminds me good ol' days with SMB and VVVVVV.
