"A new day dawns" is a Match-3-Tower-Defense-Mashup game where during the day you manipulate the environment tiles to create defences and harvest resources, which are used fight off hordes of zombies once night falls.

*Known Issue: * Sometimes, when losing all health, you don't die, but are instead reset to day 2 instantly. It's supposed to show a Game Over screen. Sorry.

Controls

  • left click - drag to combine tiles; interact with buttons
  • right click - remove tile (uses a turn)
  • middle mouse - show help screen
  • left control - hold to speed up (during night)

Best game reviewed so far ! It really pushes you to get better at it.

I was a bit lost at first, a good idea would have been to show the help screen manually at least once in order to have a better understanding of the mechanics.

A super creative idea and a really polished game! The art and music both fit the atmosphere of the game perfectly, and most importantly it was really fun to play!

This is super fun. Took me a minute to understand how it works, but after that it was really enjoyable. I believe it's actually a quite deep game, and you could surely spend hours planning your perfect moves. I ultimately died (i.e. returned to day 2 :P) because I didn't manage to cover the right most lane with a tower two days in a row.
Do the resources play any row other than buying you additional lives? It kind of felt like there might be more to the game which I just didn't know of.

Anyway, very well done, I loved the hungry zombie, and the music actually reminded me of plants vs zombies, which obviously is a good thing. Great job!

Nice work! I did a match-3 game as well, and it seems like this game suffers one of the same issues: The randomness out ways the strategy. It doesn't matter how good you are at the game, just which tiles fall for you.
Still, I think that's a problem with all match-3 style games. You did a great job at a match-3 tower-defense mashup.

Very fun and complete game! It only took a few seconds to figure out how things were done (although I didn't read the instructions so I lost a lot of health the first night ^^).

Best aspects:
- The theme mashup
- The challenge of playing

Tips/Suggestions:
- (Bug?) When selecting three spikes it deducted one move while not giving me anything.
- Maybe speed up the night a bit or give me something to do. Because especially if you see you've made a mistake or are going to lose, it can be a slow watch.

All in all a really fun game, feels like a solid game I'd play on my phone when I have a spare moment :).

Excellent work! Interesting game. Beautiful pleasant graphic with own special style. And the mechanics are well fits to each other. It is pleasant to spend time on this game. I wish you good luck and further upgrowth :)

@Tmvant, Thank you for your response! The spikes disappearing is simply because I didn't get to implementing the next level of spikes. As for the long nights: I totally agree, which is why you can hold down LCTRL to go to 4x speed. It's not great and not really a solution, but hey.

Wow! This game was incredibly fun.

Please make an Android build. I would love to download this on my phone.

A feature that would be nice is the ability to target an enemy. There were a few instances of an enemy slipping by due to the auto aim focusing elsewhere.

@Ovidios aah, I didn't notice the 4x thing. That's a nice quick fix at least :).

The best LD41 game I have played so far. I had a lot of fun playing it. Matching graphic style, music that contributes a lot to the atmosphere. The only drawback I see is that you don't get rewarded for dissolving a lot of the same tiles in one move. Keep up the great work.

Please vote back if you have the time

Wauw! This game is really well polished. Excellent mashup of genres, works really well! The music and sfx was spot on, fit the game well. I Want more upgrades!! The only thing is that I keep reading "A hew day dawhs" :D Other than that, loved the game!

I really enjoyed playing this and learning what each tile would upgrade into! It took me until my second run to learn about upgrades, but they were very useful! An undo button would have helped when I made simple mistakes (like right clicking while I was already holding left click and destroying the tile).

Wow I was blown away by this game. The varied and high quality sound effects, bgm, and art make for a really cute and puzzly mood. The gameplay is a bit hard to understand at first, but once you start playing you quickly pick it up and you realize the game has quite a bit of depth.

Top marks for theme and innovation, I've never seen a game like this before. You combined the two (genuinely) incompatible genres so seamlessly.

The controls were satisfying, responsive, and easy to pick up.

If you added some more worlds with new tiles or some other sort of progression I could play this for a long time.

Great work, I will be playing more of this game when I have some more time :)
