Basically... This is a space shooter for the Ludum Dare 42 game jam.

The goal is to get as many kills as you can before you run out of energy or take too much damage.

The graphics, music and game design were all done by Doug McMahon. The coding and sound effects were done by Neil Rankin aka Zombie Virals

Controls

Keyboard-

"P" pauses

"Up and Down arrow keys" - Forward and reverse thrust

"Right and Left arrow keys" - rotate ship

"Space" - shoots

"Left Shift" - handbrake(you'll need it)

XBOX 360 controller or GAMEPAD equivalent

Right analog for thrusts(2 direction movement)

Left analog for rotation

"Right trigger" - shoots

"Left trigger" - handbrake

"Start" - pause

I liked it but first a few suggestions.
The flashing light makes it a little hard to play for prolonged time. The music is really good but as the ring closes the frequency gets a little too high.
With that out of the way, I like it. Is a fast space shooter that applies the theme very well. Loved the alien design and them hatching from eggs. Good submission, keep it up.

Love the graphics, it did feel difficult to not hit the flashing light and take damage, might just be me being terrible at the controls though! Audio was on point, and was right on theme

@lauren-kaehler Thanks!! This was my first space shooter, so getting the controls dialed in was a challenge. I had fun making it!

I sucked with the slippery controls, sorry :sweat_smile: other than that though it's a really fun game, I enjoyed it :grin: I'd suggest maybe making the acceleration/deceleration a little quicker, it was hard to move around. Loved the art, though the ring is a little glaring. Decent inclusion of the theme, but it's been done so much before so unfortunately can't rate you too high there :frowning2:

Fun to play! Nice graphics and sound, and the game fits nicely with the theme. I think a visual health & shield bar would help me quickly see how close I am to dying.

@dom-harris. Thanks for the feedback! I agree on the controls and honestly everything else you said. I was trying to think of things to implement over the weekend honestly as far as making it more innovative, but couldn't within the short frame time.

I think there isn't enough flashing even, make this the gaming equivalent of a LSD trip :)

I liked the powerups, the graphics, the music. Good job on the game, i enjoyed playing it.

Nice effort! Maybe make the bullets slightly bigger? I had some difficulty seeing red over a blackbackground. Maybe its just me:)

The audio is good, the graphics are good, the controls feel a little loose but it is reasonably fun to play. The theme is there but it doesn't really feel like it has a big impact.

Pretty decent entry overall, could use some improvement though.

Excellent feedback. Just you wait for the polished update. Think there is glare now??? Oh baby we are going to fix the glare in a glaring way... Polarized sunglasses are advised for the finished game. Slippy controls well understood, but the multi-dimensional thrust was too difficult for a jam time constraint. More monsters. Need more monsters.
