Dessert War by Krapht

[raw]
made by Krapht for LD 42 (JAM)

It's time to answer the age old question. Which is the best dessert, Cupcakes or Cookies? There is only so much space in this world. Can you claim that space for your favorite dessert?

This is a 1v1 Local Multiplayer Game. When It is your turn Click on a Highlight space to place your piece. Each piece will move along it's path until stopped. It will then fall along your opponent's path until stopped for a final time.

When your piece comes to a stop it will check both horizontally and vertically to see if your pieces are flanking your opponents pieces. Any pieces that are flanked with the help of this new piece will be removed from the board.

The Game ends when the current player can not make a move. The number of desserts will be counted and the Winner will be decided. MainMenu.png GamePlay.png

Fun idea. I really couldn't give it a thorough play test due to the absence of a friend. The graphics are nice and seems to be a solid concept. Nice work!

Good work, but you could make the font tips at the beginning bigger.

Cute, wasn't sure at first about the mechanics, but I loved the style :)

Cute little game. The art is cool, but it would be nice to add a few sprites for the animations to make it less jaggy.

Nicely done.

@hakro More frames is defiantly something I would want to spend more time on. I'm also still not sure about the balance. It seemed OK when playing against my wife, but I'm mainly afraid it will be like Tic Tac Toe where there is only one valid play and response.

@zachw136 I had the same issue trying to develop it. Trying to play each side to win is hard.

I love the art! And (once I figured out the rules) I had a great time dominating the field of desserts.

Very Cute little competitive game. I really enjoys the fact that it was so simplistic in terms of game play and yet I was still able to have a nice bit of fun with it. It was a little hard figuring out how to capture in the beginning but after a couple games, it was relatively smooth sailing. the game play is of course very very smooth and I like how i know it's my turn when the particular food item animates itself. great graphics. Overall nicely done.

The tactical decisions in your game go deeper than I initially thought. We had fun battling it out - for the cookies of course, they're waaaayy better! I liked the art style, it's really cute and fits the cupcake vs cookies theme. The only thing I'm not quite sure about is the balancing, it feels like the beginning player has too much of an advantage.

@foomar I agree that cupcakes has to much advantage. It also sucks that the first move doesn't really have a choice. I think a map rework might help. Maybe expand to a larger map, or even just removing the bottom position.

I love the crayon art style. Great local multiplayer. I love this types of games and is the first multiplayer I have played in the game jam. We had some trouble to understand the movement of the cupcakes and cookies when you click them. But nice work!

was a really cool concept but i was unable to finish as i accidentally created an unending loop and could not finish but otherwise it was a great game

I agree with others that the art is cute. If you'd have time for bloopy sound effects, that would have bumped everything up. It took a couple of plays for me to understand the mechanics, even after reading the instructions. It seems, after playing against my own self, that the cupcakes have a real advantage in going first. A solid submission.

Nice presentation, but a bit of info on the rules would have made it easier to enjoy the first time. Good Job!

Interesting idea, but it has a big problem: the cupcakes are way easier to play :(

Hey !

This is a very interesting twist on the Go game (which I assume you drew from). From it arises a whole set of new strategies, I imagine that the potential meta would be very profound. The execution is quite well done, though I find movements to be a bit fast to understand. Graphics are cute and serve the mechanics well, being very clear, notably with a coherent color theme. Overall it's a well-done game with a great idea beneath it :) congrats !

A game very well done. I played it with my niece and she very much enjoyed it + we found it to be a fun local multiplayer game. The tect at the begining is fairly small though.
