Defrag by Guillaume Gomez

WALLPAPER_4K.png

Did you think your computer defrag process was all about code and stuff? This game is here to show you that when we're running out of space, and the computer needs cleaning, there is a lil' guy who goes on a great adventure to help us...

Between traps and pitfalls, our small friend will have to make his way out of the disk through its different slices. Time boosters and special slice specific glitches (music/video...) will make your journey even trippier!

Thank you very much for playing our game, we hope that you'll have a lot of fun with it!

Dev Process

We decided to go in a computer related theme (50% of the team is developers, they were pretty convincing), and with the vision of the good old defrag tool, the idea just.. came up!

3EbIJ.png

It was all an adventure for 4 of the 5 devs who had never used Unity before, but in the end it went fairly smooth and we were able to create this game, packed with awesome graphics and soundtracks full of a dark synthwave/Tron-ish vibe made on the fly over the weekend!

Despite having only having a few levels, it was a good 5 minutes of my time. I died at least once in each stage. My favourite aspect is how the floor is curvy, and that doors can teleport you on different layers. I'm surprised you've done this much in just over week without knowing how to use Unity beforehand~

the game was a bit hard because of the round platform. But good concept. also, i always think spacebar is for jump not hit

Really enjoyed this one -- even if I kept getting losing track of whether I was going left or right 😂

Great game! I did run into one bug when I jump outside of the current area but that is just a bug. Really enjoyed the music, art style and idea, it was challenging to maintain a concept of direction as the areas rotated. Well done!

I really like the idea and the level design is so interesting!
The round level is quite challenging.
Nice work!

Cool mood and artstyle, challenging and fun. However I felt it was missing some polish in the controls and colliders, I had a lot of trouble passing the last obstacle of the first stage and sometimes the punch wasn't very responsive, my character bugged out of the hallway into the "roof" of the circle several times and I couldn't get past.

Great art and music

However, it's pretty confusing to control, especially when the character gets to the bottom part of the circle. Why didn't you just make the stage that rotates, keeping the player standing/running/jumping/sliding in the same place?

@wildcard, it's unfortunately a knew bug. We didn't have time to fix it before the due date.
We will fix it in a post mortem version.

More importantly, thank you all for your feedback

Amazing ambiance, the art and sound match really well with the gameplay, super cool.
I did not understand too much the effects of bonus/penalties, and sometimes sliding acts weird, but overall really fun.

@vekstr Its because you have to think move clockwise/counterclockwier not left and right :)

@daine Ah, so it *is* intended then, cool!

I Love the atmosphere ! The minimalist art style is so elegant, I love it.
Controls were a bit difficult tho but this is a good challenge, great work ! :D

I like the art style and the music, especially the glitchy style you went with. However, I find the controls confusing: depending on where you are left is actually moving the player right and the other way around. I also would have made the time bigger and more apparent, I didn't notice it first as it was very small and in the corner.

Really nice concept! I think it would have been interesting to introduce each new object / mechanics of the game so that the first levels are a way to learn more easily. I also liked the minimalist style and the music of the game! Great job!

Amazing combination of minimalism and epic. Epic music. It is difficult to get used to control. The game is very stylish.

Lovely game. Almost perfect. I guess you didn't have enough time for more levels. :)

Looks really polished with the clean graphics and minimal UI. I really love the concept, but the movement felt a bit jarring to me. Because the platform is round, I often tried to go forward using the UP arrow key when I was on the side of the platform.
Other than that, the game is top notch, the music complements the mood you are trying to set.

WOW huge game guys ! Really polished, I love the art, the gameplay, the music, everything is just perfect ! Controls are a bit hard, be happy there is no "controls section", thats a full 5 stars for you ! Better game I ve played so far !!

very nice game. I'm a bit sad there aren't more level :-D
Just the attacks while jumpig were a bit clunky.

This idea was so so good and graphics were realy nice too.

A really nice game. I love the art direction. The only draw back was it reminded me of N+ and so I could not help compare the physics unfavorably. If it played like N+ on this mechanic I would give it straight 5s. Good job.
