Mars Defender by Mil

[raw]
made by Mil for LD 42 (JAM)

Mars Defender is our second entry ever and we are learning a lot about Game Development and the technologies we are using.

Play on Itch.io!

It is a very simple game but we are happy to be able to complete this game especially because we are both living over 5000 kilometers away from each other. So this is a world-wide operation actually. :D

Controls: Left mouse button to blow up accumulating vehicles and debris, ESC to go back/leave the game.

Very fun sound! Great use of free assets to make your game. I played for a while trying to keep things clean, and then just sat back and enjoyed watching the rovers pile up and shake from their RigidBody collisions. The rockets from the sky felt good, but the rovers just popped in, maybe they could move in from the side of the screen, or drive in over the horizon?

Hooray for Mars! Git out Earthlings!

Nice use of both the NASA photos and... whatever those sound effects were from. Hilarious!

If you want to make your audio sound effects even sillier you can set the audioSource.pitch to a random value eveytime you play it, and you'll get some high/low pitch variation!

@mgoadric Very good point with the movement and pop-in. You can recognize our lack of experience here, but we are getting better (and do more complex stuff) with each project.

@all The sound effects are the beautiful voice work of @akeean

Haha, well done guys. I was torn between rating highly on sound or on humour. Went for the latter as my ears are hurting.. :D
I assume I lost when the counte reached 0?
Good effort, keep it up, your games will only get more awesome over time!

Well done, glad to see you guys made something cool, out of curiosity(rover) I also tried losing the game, I love that you had the losing condition as well, plus the debris was a nice touch!

Why do I keep hearing Danny DeVito saying "Yeah!" whenever I destroy a debris?

Good sound effects and funny premise. I guess to improve it you could add more bonkers via particle effects or a wider variety of sound effects?

I had a great time blasting earthling scum, but after about 10 seconds I felt that the game needed something more.
Cool idea, though - and congratulations on finishing your second entry ever! =)

Oh nice entry akeean, the best feature in the game is doing rapid firing to create beatboxing song with your sfx haha. Filing mars with rovers and rockets to fill the space was an interesting idea and the graphics look nice with the explosions. Simple but enjoyable small game well done!
