SNEK by weaselzone

[raw]
made by weaselzone for LD 40 (COMPO)

:snake: In SNEK you play a hungry snake, eating mysterious cubes of different colors. Every time you eat The longer your SNEK becomes, the trickier it is, not eating yourself. Blue cube will invert controls for a certain amount of time, red cubes will increase the speed and make it harder to control.

SNEK is more or less a happy accident, resulting from my initial idea falling flat (somewhat literally)!

Controls:

*Rotate SNEK - A/D *Switch Camera - C *Turn On/Off Minimap - M

The third person camera and minimap are mostly gimmicks, but I always wanted to try to build a minimap and third person is just some silly fun.

I only put about 14 hours into it, due to wanting to sleep in and having a bunch of chores that have to be taken care of, hence the horrible code. I also did not spend as much time as I'd like on working out UI bugs and the polish, before calling it day. I hope you can still have some fun with this odd take on Snake :)

I did not include the Third Party tools in the code, but you can still look at this god awful piece of software with this Unity package: http://weaselzone.com/builds/snek.unitypackage

Holy moly, the idea is as old as it can get and still, this is a really fresh and fun experience! Good job!

I had a bit of fun with it. The way the snake worked as you got longer was a little weird but seemed like it was just part of the challenge. Well, maybe until too much of your snake is stuck and then it flips you over and goes crazy.

Really cool concept, I actually had a similar idea when I was brainstorming concepts at the start of the jam. You've executed the concept really well, the only issue I had was when the controls get all funky from part of your body getting stuck on a rock. Other than that I think a music track would have added a lot to the mood of the game. But kudos on a great entry none the less!
