Triangle Command by backyard-dev

[raw]
made by backyard-dev for LD 40 (COMPO)

This game was made in about 8 hours and it's my first time participating at Ludum Dare.

Welcome Pilot!

Dodge the obstacles by using the [up & down arrows] or [w/s].

Collect the energy pellets by shooting at them with [l-ctrl] or [left mouse]. This will make you faster and also increases your score faster!

If you are going too fast, dump an energy pellet using the [space] key.

Good luck.

You are our only hope...!

The controls feel a little sluggish (but if that's intentional, I don't complain!)

Nice and minimalist design, the concept is good, but the execution could use some work. I would suggest you make the movement up and down quicker - that would allow the game to be played at much higher speed (and hence tension). Currently its hard to build up any kind of speed without quickly dying.

About the controls: I experimented with a more direct input. I did it the way it is now to make it a bit harder. But you might be right.
Thanks for the feedback.

A nice take on a flappy bird style game :) ! The very simple black and white art style was also quite appealing !

Managing how many power ups you carry is a nice idea! Gj

Controls do feel quite sluggish, maybe use Input.GetAxisRaw instead of Input.GetAxis. This will speed up acceleration. Also maybe swap ctrl and space around as I kept accidently dropping the orbs.

This is great for 8 hours! I like the minimalist style but think that the character movement could use a little work. It's a little frustrating not to be able to get in front of a pellet before you reach it at the slowest speed.

For 8 hours of work, this is pretty awesome. Sadly the movement controls annoy me a little as it's floaty. Also you could just make sure you never have pellets and take the game really slowly for a huge score.

I also had a bug where I died even though I didn't hit anything :(

A good idea that works really well. I like how the pellets are represented bouncing about inside your ship. :)

Good job for just 8 hours! I wish the up and down movement was a little more direct, it feels a bit sluggish. Also on macOS pressing the `L-CTRL + UP` or `L-CTRL + DOWN` will change the windows, so I had to be careful not to press these keys together.

This game had a good difficulty/reward curve/balance. Very well done!

Like others I was a bit put off by the overly smooth controls. Would have preferred the difficulty to have been increased some other way. It was very cool seeing the energy pellets bouncing around inside the ship, that detail really appealed to me for some reason. Music was fantastic.
