Scard by DigitalLimestone
A card-based dungeon crawler with mediocre artwork and music.
This is my first ever game jam, and only third playable game, so tell me what you think. (:
Use WASD or the arrow keys to move around and click to shoot. Be careful to conserve your limited ammo.
Made in unity, musescore, inkscape, and krita.
Edit: I just realised that rooms become locked after a death. You might need to restart if this happens. (Sorry). Edit: I've added itch.io! let me know if it doesn't work

I recommend adding a little sound effects, it really helps with the experience. Even using really quick ones from programs like SFXR can make all the difference.
@sigton Yep, I've never been very good with polish and I think sound effects are the way to go. Thanks for your feedback!
@angelnm Thanks for your feedback. I really appreciate it :)
I think my only real criticism is that I didn't really understand what the cost of the "Refresh Cards" button was, but it seemed to cost HP. That could probably be explained better.
Other than that, I thought it felt intuitive and the system was surprisingly deep. A few of the card effects surprised me.
Brilliant job.
@danny-sun Thanks for the feedback! :v:
Sound effects would have been great
Regenerating bullets is very hard, and can make it hard to get far in the game. This is especially true since refreshing cards seemed to cost health (and often kill me).
Having the cards at the bottom on-screen was hard when I was moving into a room with enemies below mt, since the cards got in the way of seeing enemies and projectiles.
Overall, however, great job! And welcome to the Ludum Dare :)
Thank you very much. It's really great to read this.
PS: The continuos shooting upgrade is a an unbalanced killing machine, and I love it :)
@phillserrazina Sorry for locking you in a room :smirk:. I never got round to fixing that. Thanks for the kind words! :blowfish:
I have some feedback:
- I saw you noticed it, but there is a bug when you die, the first room is locked, it's quite painful for a game where you die frequently
- Graphics are OK, we understand the monsters, the player, etc.. But problem is the iconography! Cards are important in the gameplay, and we should be able to understand clearly what they do.
- Cards location is sometimes over enemies which make them hard to see, and attacking the enemy make you click on some cards by accident. When I did want to click on some cards, I lost some (precious) bullets ^^
- There is maybe not enough bullets, or cards able to give you bullets, it makes the game really hard with no progression (the game is hard from the beginning, not progressively)
The mechanics are pretty solid though, it's a very nice idea!!!
I love the cards ability, and the room by room works really well. The theme is well interpreted: to trade off resources against negative effects, very cool mechanics :)
Thank you! Super useful feedback. I'm going to make a post-jam and will make sure to include the following.
- Fix all bugs.
- Cards expand on hover. This also makes text appear stating it's use.
- Positive cards are only bullets and health. Cards are collectable and decks can be changed.
- Buggy graphics (pixelly) will be fixed. (I had the max size setting too high).
Thanks for the feedback!
Nevermind. Now it works. Quite fun game to Play, but I think I found a bug: when you die (which I did) the doors dont open as soon as you killed the slime thingy. Also, I found it a bit hard to grasp what exactly the Cards do at the beginning. Anyway, great work!
Sorry I couldnt try again sooner, was a busy week.
Thanks for the feedback and thanks for coming back!
@toulou Thank you! I'm working on a completed version at the moment.
