Problematic Quadratic by vulpineblazeyt

[raw]
made by vulpineblazeyt for LD 42 (JAM)
  • Note the word says one squares color and is the other sqaures color
  • Click the square that shares a color with the word, they both turn black
  • Click the square that the word says, they both disappear
  • Black out the screen to end the game; you are running out of (white) space

tl;dr: By clicking the color of the word that appears and not the word itself, you are running out of "white space"

The idea is great. I find it really challenging after play for a while.

However, I do not find what the number on the right top means.

It became pretty simple when I started to NOT read the color but click on the one that didn't match the color of the words.

It's a good concept! I think it might be improved by having some sort of timer, so that the player doesn't have time to think about it. I found that it became a lot more difficult when I forced myself to just click without thinking, so building that into the game might create more of a challenge.

Cool take on the Stroop Effect, meaby adding more colored cubes each time would make the game a bit more challenging and engaging.

Good game for the given theme. What does that number mean?

This is a fun concept. I definitely think it needs a timer to force quick decisions. I really dig the music, it made the whole thing feel urgent, and gave me a total Earthbound vibe.

Fun game to play although the scoring (I presume this is what the number is) doesn't do anything.

This is a really simple premise that ends up being really fun! I love how you took an old mental trick and translated it into a game! Great job.

Even as i was beating the level, i still struggled to see past the meaning of the words. I am not sure if my brain is too dumb or too smart....

Hey guys! Thanks for playing and rating our game!

The number was a feature that was designed to [REDACTED], and I'm glad everyone [REDACTED].

We did want to include a timer, but it wasn't in our SRD, and we didn't have time to get to it. We tried to be pretty strict with that so we could be more-done by the deadline.

We originally had a ton of cubes, but reduced their numbers by increasing their size for aesthetic purposes. A feature to increase their numbers could have been cool, but it wasn't in the SRD.

I think I covered the feedback and I'm glad everyone sounded like they enjoyed themselves. Good luck out there to all my fellow jammers!

Neat concept which only lacks some pressure for the player (and maybe some score?). That could be a timer which just turns both the squares black if you don't click fast enough. Or even better, it blacks out two more squares, encouraging the player to click fast instead of taking his time!

Simple game mechanic that put my brain in overdrive. Music is spot on.

The idea is awesome! but i think there is a lack of pressure that would make the game better, like a timer.
