Clunky Ball is a Monkey Ball clone that let's you bonk every which way but Sunday (and sometimes even on Sunday if you eat your peas and go to bed without complaining)! Travel through each obstacle course and find the goal before the time runs out. See your scores at the end for dat speedrunning potential!

Controls

IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO USE A GAMEPAD!!!

Gamepad

  • Move: Left stick
  • Menu: D-pad
  • Pause: Start
  • Fast Reset: X
  • Confirm: A

Keyboard

  • Move: WASD / Arrows
  • Menu: WASD / Arrows
  • Pause: Escape
  • Fast Reset: R
  • Confirm: Enter

Changelog

  • Fixed failing via running out of time not letting you retry
  • Fixed score board accumulating stage data forever & running off screen
  • Fixed minor title menu display issue after you give up
  • Fixed input (hopefully) for AZERTY users by using scan codes not key codes
  • Fixed a stupid input bug where first press would be registered for keys you pressed before the game loaded, causing menus to skip.
  • Added the LÖVE3D splash screen. Stop asking if it's LÖVE. it's still LÖVE!

None of these fixes involve any change in gameplay behavior.

Nice work! Pretty solid work there. I was most impressed with the level design. Each one played with a different idea, you have a good variety of levels. I'd be careful with #9 #stacked, I was worried about falling on that one since I didn't want to go through the monotony of all the same drops again. Over all great work.

And I have to commend the sound effects, "Ohhh Nooooo" will haunt my dreams. Audio = 5

Controls on keyboard worked, but I could tell the gamepad would have been better. Wish I could reverse.

Thanks for your input! We were trying to mimic the input scheme from Monkey Ball but we were having trouble with it and had to leave it to spend our time on other things. :(

big fan of the voices my guy n.n

it's a nice little roller ball game, some very clunky camera mechanics that if sorted out would help the controls a loooot. the level design had a nice pace to them but maybe could be reshiffled a bit for difficulty curve. great job!

Really cool game, just maybe a little difficult for a non english keyboard, but i tried to keep on track i promise! xD
The sound make me laugh a lot "Hoo noooo - respawn" haha really nice!

DO non-English keyboards have weird arrow keys? Both arrows and WASD should work to control the ball. Additionally, the game supports XInput devices such as an Xbox controller.

Thanks for the compliment, I didn't think people would like my goofy voice clips much o///o <3

Really neat little game. I like that you added extra paths in some of the levels but I would have liked to see more levels like the first one but overall a solid entry. Thanks!

This game pulls through on humour and silliness alone. It's unfortunate that the dev didn't manage to incorporate a second genre or implement better camera control but it was an overall enjoyable experience. Solid work.

pushed a very small update to fix the retry option when timer runs out. too much playing fast near submission hour...

edit: also fixed endless scoreboard accumulation issue in results

edit 2: fixed every other small bug in the menus. pushed final update for the jam version of the game.

Neat game. Would like to see more levels and a more smooth camera.

I was surprised to see a 3d game in Love2d . Unfortunately the camera wasn't smooth, which made it very hard to play.

Fun and addictive game! The association with two genres were a bit unclear to me. The "Layers" level took a lot of trials for me, but I feel there's a secret exit that I haven't explored...

@euske Every level has at least two exits! We ran out of time and couldn't add in our second genre content :(

Thanks for playing! <3

When the MIDI music kicked in at the beginning of the game I was so excited !
Too bad you didn't have the time to finish the game because it's quite fun ! It has nothing to do with the theme but I liked playing your game a lot, it works well and the sound design is hilarious. Good job overall!

These are my thoughts

**Good**

The sound is amazing, this man's voice will become my new ringtone :)

I was surprised to see the detail in the ball. It would've been just as easy to add a sphere, but the details are important to see rotation. good job!

Good credits scene. Me like.

**Improvements**

The camera at the start is confusing. Why is it looking down? I guess it'll fix itself when you go straight but then you can just fall off a cliff

The idea isn't original at all. I docked points there, but it was built very well. I do love my monkeyball from gamecube

Please add a sound effect for winning.

I don't know how difficult it is with love, but I'd add some impact particle effects

Some form of skybox would be nice, it would create some story to the game, even if there isn't one

Good submission, I'll make sure to check out any other work you've done. See you in the next jam!

@travis-spuller thanks for playing! The camera gave us a lot of trouble and we had to just call it "good enough" to finish the game. If we had more time we would have spent more time onthe camera, controls, and adding particles and more sfx. While there is no skybox, there is a day-night cycle so there is at least some atmosphere to look at~ :)

Solid game! This has totally inspired me to learn LÖVE3D! I didn't realize it was "actually usable" for proper games. Would it be possible for you to release the source code? Pretty please?

I'm also a big fan of the sound effects :D

Solid entry guys!

@drikdrok sure, we've released source for all our games. here's the source for this one, check out the same account for previous ones (this one is all haxe, but they were Lua before LD39)

https://github.com/excessive/ludum-dare-41

feel free to ask me questions on twitter (@shakesoda), telegram (@shakesoda) or irc (holo on afternet). using love this way is a bit involved, but it's not so bad! I have also previously made some basic demos here, although they aren't yet ported to love 11 (it's easier in love 11) https://github.com/excessive/love3d-demos

I use a gamepad and it was great... But get stuck in a level where the pit's aren't visible. Or maybe I do not put my glasses on XD, gonna play again. This was really fun.

Cool game! Really nice to see another 3D game made in Love! It was still doable and fun on keyboard controls. The voice lines were my favorite part! I think some moving parts on the levels, like moving platforms, could have made it more challenging and added some more variety.

I really enjoyed this game, every level I thought "lets just try this as well" until the game ended and I got sad. Make more of this!

Solid Monkeyball-esque game, but I'm missing the theme in it. With time pressure, using your voice can often be a cheap but humorous way to add sound effects to the game. In this game however, it felt out of place, and unnecessary.
