About:

Space Cleaner is a Compo game made for Ludum Dare 42.

It is about small robot on a spaceship. Its task is to collect trash cubes and transfer them to the airlock where they will be thrown into space.

How to play:

  • Transfer trash cubes to the airlock.
  • You will lose if there will be more than 3 trash cubes on one spot.
  • While the airlock is closed you can organise trash cubes to transfer them faster when it will open.
  • Do not get smashed by falling trash cubes.
  • Do not get crushed by the gate.
  • Do not get trapped inside the airlock.
  • Lights and sound alarm indicate when the airlock will close/open.
  • Once every 30 seconds you can use your special power to destroy surrounding trash cubes.
  • Have fun!

Default controls:

  • Arrows/WASD - Movement
  • Space/E - Grabber
  • Left Ctrl/F - Use Power Up

Note:

  • Due to Unity limitations WebGL version has worse graphics (mostly lighting). Use standalone Windows version for the best experience. :D
  • If you play WebGL version and have issues with low FPS or the game does not load try standalone Windows version. :D

Have fun! :star::star::star::star::star:

Nice game, enjoyed it very much. The graphical aspect is really convincing. Keep it up!

I like the sound and graphics but am not quite sold on the gameplay, there's quite a bit of downtime when the airlock closes and there doesn't seem to be much to do while we wait for it to reopen

This game is cool! Kinda hard for a casual gamer but I love the graphics and sfx! Can't believe this is a compo. You must be a master!

Nice entry, loved the robot design which made me think about wall-e. The controls felt a bit hard to get used to at first but I still quickly managed to get the hang of it. Nice job.

@dmtroy That pause is intended. During that time you can organise trash cubes to transfer them faster when the airlock will open. (It really helps if you have only a little of free space left. :D)

@mrsylar59 Well I have to say it was a bit inspired by the Wall-e :D

Impressive amount of detail in the graphics, even the lights and vents look amazing. The controls feel a little sluggish, mainly because it's too easy to move too little (just turn in place) or too much (overshoot my target). Still, great execution, consistent theme, and a ton of polish - really well done!

A really solid entry. Fit the theme perfectly, and had a fun little gameplay loop. Graphics were simple but effective. Well Done!

Game looks fantastic, and I love the gameplay. The little robot is really cute and I like the one hiding at the top.

I would have enjoyed playing it a lot more with one simple tweak to the controls - just commit to tank controls. When I first pressed A and it just rotated my robot without moving sideways my instant reaction is to press W to move forward again, however this just turned me back again. Once I got my head around that I still kept overshooting my targets because I was tapping A to turn and then holding it after to move - it basically seemed impossible to only move one square!

But, that said, for a Compo game this is really impressive and I enjoyed my time with it.

Congrats on such a complete game, so much of it seems smooth and polished, sound , graphics, functional menus. I'm a wee bit jelly! not total jelly monster levels, but a wee bit for sure..

I did find the controls frustrating though. In the beginning, more often than not, I was overshooting the desired target block, so I would have to re-align and lose time, or play off the miss step... i did adapt to the controls after a bit, still occasional miss steps though, which in a timed puzzle made prolonged play sessions taxing...

Really nicely executed! I agree with @bradleypollard I feel like the controls could have benefited from being a little more structured. Since you've established that you're playing as a robot, I think the game would feel really good with a more precise movement system. Even grid-based movement would feel good and fit with the robotic feel of the character.

I also enjoy that you have multiple ways of getting yourself killed, so it allows me to make a series of possible mistakes to get a game over. Overall, very nice work!

Beautiful game! It really suits the theme! The music, I feel, is very fitted for this game. I have a very, very small thing that I would have liked in the game, and that it some audio feedback when you pick up and drop the trash cubes. Otherwise, a very cool game :).

Awesome game! The menu is well thought up and individual volume controls are a nice touch. Impressive graphics, especially for a compo project. My critiques would be to have an option for a mouse click to be grab instead of space. Also shorten the time that the airlock takes. Nice Job!

Really fun take on the theme and the game was really fun too. At times i wanted the truck to move faster in comparison to the junk boxes falling. Plus when the pile is high enough and the truck is north of that pile of junk, it hard to tell where it is. Maybe at that point, make the blocks translucent.

These are just suggestion for what is already a solid entry. Good job!

@bradleypollard Well... what you described was the first way the robot was controlled. However I changed it because I thought it will be easier the way it is now. (Because you always know that if you press an key you go in certain direction and you don't have to worry about your rotation.) I also thought about implementing both types of steering and to let the player choose but there was not enough time to make sure it works without issues. So I uploaded it as is. :/

@deprecat The robot actually has grid-based movement. It is precise but for some people can be hard to get used to. Sorry about that. :/

@luca1152 Yeah more audio feedback was planned. :/ Thanks for the suggestion though. :D

@paulie-b Controls are customizable in Windows version. Also you can use the time when the airlock is closed to organise the cubes. :D

@mza Thanks for the suggestion! :D

Thank you everyone for the feedback! :D

Huh this reminded me so much of that scene in Wall-e, that's probably why I enjoyed it so much. The graphics are top notch, but maybe having a little less flashing lights would help. I like the little details on the scene so it doesn't look blank. A very solid entry!
