Spiritship by velvetlobster

[raw]
made by velvetlobster for LD 42 (JAM)

This was supposed to be a sad and cute story about a family trying to make ends meet in a fast paced world ... unfortunately we just could not finish it, but here is a bit of the vibe we were trying to conceive... The web version is even buggier than the desktop version and sometimes the music simply won't play, so we recommend trying the desktop one. Untitled2.png Untitled.png title.png

Huh, I like this idea - I'd really like to see what it would be like as a finished game. Love the art style; it makes me think of a hand-drawn version of Broken Age. I hope y'all make something for the next LD!

The vibe is great, the audio and art are awesome. I would love to see more, I followed on itch to see what comes next :)

Hiya, the mac version doesn't seem to be working, I just getting a little red 98% in the centre of the screen, I left it running for a few minutes and no change. I'm on High Sierra if that helps.

Very nice graphics. Actually, I wonder if there is not a unwanted "meta game" as the music and tone of "unsuccess" message is as sad as the expected story ;-)
Of course, we would love to play the game we had planned to do...

Absolutely beautiful. Lovely art style and music, great mood. As @vfabien21 said, the tone of the game really ties in with your slightly sad messages about not having time and being unfinished. Obviously there is no real game it, but I really enjoyed my time with it.

Also thanks for doing a linux version. I'm currently on my Linux machine and may not have got round to playing it had there not been a linux version.

Can't rate this game in most of the categories but the graphics and sounds in this game are amazing. But I think that this game has a lot of potential

Genuinely seems like a really great concept! Even though you didn't have time to make a lot of game play, even flying around in the rocket ship putting together the different snippets of text I found fun. And of course, the visual art and music are very enjoyable all on their own, especially with the mood they create.

I don't know how big you guys envisioned the game, but it would be awesome to see you challenge yourselves to make 'chapter one' of the game or something like that. Not too much to chew, but enough so that we could see what the game could be. I'm definitely going to check by you guys next Ludum Dare to see what you make!

Too bad you couldn't finish it because the aesthetics is impressive. The music really gives a unique mood and even the handwritten text suggests a journey into imagination. If I may, the art would be even more stunning if the characters could be the same resolution as the rest of the game .Hope to see a finished version of this one!

I definitely really like the vibe and art style.... but like you said it isn't finished 😔. I hope you continue to work on it anyways, even if the jam is over!

I really, **really** want you to do "something nice with this one day". The mood, the art, the music, and even the way you designed your unfinished game to be enjoyable say a lot about your respective talents.

Pros :
- Incredible graphics and amazing audio make for the most successful melancholic atomsphere I encountered during the jam
- Strong concept, nice take on the theme
- The experience itself is funny, I legit roamed through the whole place to look for more messages

Cons :
- Bugs (at my first playthrough, my sprite got really small and was thrown into space)
- I want more !

All in all, great work, and I look forward to your future entries !

If you follow up on this, I'm definitely interested! The controls felt... not great if I'm honest, but as you said the game's incomplete so I'm not shocked. The atmosphere showed through very much. I thought of LiS/Captain Spirit _before_ seeing the text, for whatever that's worth! (Mainly because of the music) I feel like there's a ton of potential here.

If this is something you plan to follow up, how can we follow this project? :grinning:

The music didn't work for me, ther was some blinking of menu screens in the beginning and then just me on the planet. Still, I would play this game much longer, if there was at least a bit of gameplay. I would find something to do. Its artstyle is amazing and I hope you guys make something out of it!

@cppchriscpp thanks for the comments! We usually post games on itch.io and then some of them go to steam (actually currently its just one of them lol). Making complete games is quite hard, but we participate in some game jams from time to time. Btw I think I said that, but I must say again that I absolutely loved your entry to this ld42 =)

Too bad you could not finish it on time, I'd really like to play this game if you can finish it some day. The game has a great atmosphere. As a big fan of LiS/Captain Spirit, it was hard not to like this ^^.

I have to give you all props for at-least showing what you managed to make, rather then not submitting anything at all! The art and style shows potential for a sweet adventure game, it kind of reminds me of Machinarium a bit. Keep it going and aim for a full game next time
