Smack`Em! by mess110

splash.png

The front porch owned by Critter Control has been infested though a coordinated attack by the Mole Hole Gang and things are out of control.

The Critter Control people look in the address book and search for Critter Control.. They call but the line is busy. They panic but wait: Hammer Time!

You get extra time whenever you hit a mole and loose time when you miss. The more points you have the faster things go.

Planned but out of time

  • The more points you have the more mole holes you will get. Sadly, I only managed to implement a fixed number of holes
  • Cinematic when Critter Control calls their own number
  • Ask for highscore name (currently score is reported with guid, not name - and it is not yet visible)
  • Better gamification

Th graphics are great. I love that television like effect, the models are cute and the sound is great too. Both the music when you lose and the noise the creatures make when hit.
Smacking cute little creatures is always satisfying.

Very good sound and graphics. It seemed like some of my clicks weren't whacking moles, but maybe that's because the hammer object was still on screen somewhere else? Anyway, it's a well polished game.

Someone else made a mole game so I had to take a look! ^_^ (not for this Jam but for xkcd Game Jam 2 weeks ago. You can check it out here: https://valkling.itch.io/a-mole-of-moles)

Anyways, this is fun totally adorable. It is basically a wack-a-mole game that rewards accuracy rather than speed. I failed the first time in 3 seconds because I did not understand this. :-P It's a completely different wack-a-mole strategy! What !?! >_< Otherwise, the only note I'd make is better score display, maybe bigger and at the bottom. I did not even know it was there for like 3 games.

My Compo game is over here, if you want to have a look. It ALSO involves inflicting bludgeoning damage to animals, so our games have that in common. (they are evil cyborgs though, so it’s ok :-P) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/squirrel-puncher-4000

Fun game with beautiful graphics. There is a reason this game is one of the base classics and the fact that it fits the theme perfectly, makes it even better!
Sadly, I cant play it with my volume up right now, so I wont rate the audio yet. Since you made it with "your trusty guitar", as you mentioned, I will definetly come back to that!!

As some already mentioned, the losing screen is too subtle. Maybe its indicated by sound that I cant hear by now. But still.
I would keep the fact that all critters are up, but I would also add some "game over" and a final score or something.

Cool! :)

Theme connection is great and this is a very creative take on it, I also really enjoyed the graphic style. I felt the controls were unresponsive though. Sometimes I thought I clicked on the mole but I must have missed the hit box. Anyways I think a more forgiving hitbox that maybe even extends farther than the actual hole would fix this feeling. Overall its a fun little game that is very unique. Good work!

One of the cool things about doing a classic idea like whack-a-mole is that you get to emphasize the things you love to work on during a project. In this case, it's clear that you've put a lot of effort into making it an attractive-looking game with clever sounds effects and a great sounding guitar track! What i'd love to have seen improved w/ this iteration is the size and color of the text for the score. It took me a little bit to figure out if the game even did keep rack of score since it is hard to see the tiny text in the top left corner.

Also, I was playing this on a laptop and am kind of surprised i was able to get 30+ points on a touch pad :p.

Really fast loading time, well done. Good choice of technology.

Animatinos were good and the characters looked funny. Not sure about the post processing horizontal line shader, but I guess it added to the arcade feel.

Fun game. Could do with a sound effect when you miss so you nknow you did a bad thing, I was a bit confused at the beginning as to why the game was ending.

Classic whack a mole, great fun. Looks good and runs smoothly in a browser. My best score is.. wait, I'll give it another try... nope, still 50. My only criticism is that it is somewhat difficult to understand where exactly the hammer will hit. And when the hammer is there it is hard to see what is behind it.

The graphics have a lot of personality, but my reactions times aren't what they used to be (he says, peering over his glasses and wishing that they were bifocal). Though the game isn't exactly original, it was pretty fun to play. The gameplay mechanics felt pretty polished and the difficulty was not too hard or too easy. I also loved the cute 3D graphics and funny sound effects. If you are planning to expand this game, I would recommend adding music, a main menu, a tutorial, and leaderboards. Overall, playing the game was pretty calming and relaxing.

I played it on mute first and then realized I need to put on my headphones and the audio just killed me xD
The creatures (moles?) were cute, but I would have wished for the animations to have more variance, i.e. that one creature does not always the same thing. You made several animaitons anyway, you could just randomly switch between them.
My highscore was just 21 xD

This is really fun, but the difficulty should probably keep increasing slightly over time (or a different mode where there's no cap on it). Pretty solid wack-a-mole game. I like the original guitar music. I'm really not sure how it fits the theme. I guess the more moles there are the worse it is trying to hit them. The television scanline effect was nice. The hammer model was well done and the animations on the moles looked really good.

Colorful art, Nice audio effects. A bit too fast to my taste. Reminded me of real world arcade games, thanks.

It reminded me my childhood, classic one also fun! Although I am not very good at games. Very enjoyable smooth animation, well done!
