Turn-based Talladega by WojWorks

[raw]
made by WojWorks for LD 41 (JAM)

A turn-based racing game! Choose your speed and turning each round, and watch your cars go!

We were pretty lax this time around, so it's a bit rough around the edges, but we still liked how it came out. We actually combined these two genres in a fun and interesting way.

Nice little game. We had a fun round. It's a little hard to predict and to control your car, though. Maybe shorter rounds would have helped. Also, the wheel's hitbox is really hard to hit. Oh, and you really should have opted out of Audio because it's a little unfair if people who don't know F-Zero give you a high rating for the (admittedly amazing and well fitting) song. But overall a good and fun implementation of Ludum Dare's stock idea! :D Here's a fish for you: 🐟

Can't seem to open the game, I just get a bunch of folders and files I can't open.

@nina Are you playing on a Mac/Linux machine? My apologies if it isn't working, we never had the chance to test it on those machines as we do not own them.

@beebo-studios Thanks for the honest review! Apologies about the audio rating, didn't think about that. It has been removed.

Still nothing, on Windows. I extract it and I just get a bunch of files and folders, it also asks me to rename/replace certain files

@thy-duck Have the latest Java Runtime Environment installed? .jar files are meant to be run with Java, usually when you've got Java installed on your machine they can be opened just by double clicking them. They should not be extracted in this case.

Nice and simple - also, quite fun. I approve of this game. It sets out to create a turn-based racing game, and that is what it does.

Some feedback about where your wheels were facing relative to your steering wheel might have been nice, since that would help predict your trajectory (without fully giving it away by tracing the trajectory with a spline or something like that). But, to some degree, the ambiguity added to the game's challenge, so I think that was an acceptable omission.

Interestingly, I think I crash about as much in turn-based racing games as I do in real-time racing games. Thanks for helping me find that out.
