Description

Irwin McSpenders is on a quest to become the greatest tax accountant in the world. Help him gather as much money as possible. Unfortunately, the more money you have, the worse the taxes are on him, as he will be placed in higher tax brackets as his income rises. Therefore, you must help him rescue the dependents to get a big deduction. Beware, the government tax agents are lurking everywhere, and they are targeting Irwin McSpenders for a big audit! Gather boxes of paperclips, and use the paperclips to send the evil agents from whence they came. Help Irwin make his way to the exit of the office building, so that he may claim the title of greatest tax accountant in the world!

I tried to simulate the tax calculations as closely as possible, by using real 2017 values and formulas data for tax brackets, deductions, and taxable income.

Funny idea! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz5gIdXHSCQ

I tried to run away from the agents but to no avail. They collected both my taxes, and my life. Still, I'd be happy to work anywhere that money is let on the floor. Nice Blender work on the 3D charaters.

Good take on the theme--it'd be interesting to see this sort of income/deduction/tax rate balancing mechanic explored further. The random generation, "Zelda dungeon"-style camera, and "dependents" following you around were nice touches.

A game about taxes! And it's actually fun! Ahahah. Very fun and innovative concept! I only wish I could live in a world where there was that much money scattered around. ;) You did great, congragtulations!

Man.. trying to dodge those tax agents is tough. Once they are on your trail, it's super hard to get rid of them. Would have loved to have seen a way to shoot those paperclips at agents behind you to stop that happening. However, I liked the game and had tons of fun playing it. If only money was left around all over the floor like that in real life though.

 **What I liked:**
✱ Fun take on the theme
✱ Neat realisation with great audio and graphics

:muscle: **What imo could be improved:**
✱ Pace of the game is a bit slow, the game mechanics quickly get repetitive, both point make the game become boring pretty fast.
✱ The game is a combination of 3rd person shooter and collectible gathering game, but the gameplays does not sustain each other in this implementation. When you combine mechanics, try to have them interact as much as possible. In a shooter/collectible case classical interaction loop is that the collectible allows to get stronger by buying more stuff and increasing enemy strength force player to collect things to get stronger. In pacman collectible are slowing movement which make enemies more dangerous. This kind a relation between the 2 core mechanics is missing here.
✱ I assumed cash = score, but did not understand the point of other informations (tax, deductions, etc.). I understand what they mean in real world, but I can't see the purpose of them in the game. Edit: after re-reading the instruction in the game entry page, my understanding is that it is a criticism of real world taxes and is related to dependents mechanics. I think adding clarity of the main goal + how those mechanics works in game would improve the experience.

:sparkles: **Overall**
✱ The realisation is really great! With a better game design implementation you could produce top level experiences. Thanks for the game!

Fun idea! The GUI felt a bit messy but in a good way. Gameplay gets a bit tedious after a while

Fantastic!!! AMAZING use of the theme, managed to pick up a dependent on the way and some nice briefcases full of money!! I loved that the only way to defeat the tax agents was with paperclips :P Great humor and audio! Loved it.

I smiled at the plot for this game and thought it was very unique take on the theme. Not sure how I "win" but I just kept collecting and trying to find as much dependents as I could. :) The UI is a little heavy and I think this game would benefit greatly of some sort of checkpoints (like hitting miles stones or moving up/down brackets)
