5/5 game as far as I'm concerned. Great job guys!
The gamepay is well done and the graphicstyle is great. Nice selection of colors. The music is fitting and sfx do a great job on creating a mood. (I would have loved more SFX though, mainly on the gameplay part, e.g. for clicking the parts).
The cutscenes (I mean: double read this: cutscenes in an LD game, WOW!) and the story are of high quality and the only thing I was missing was sort of an "end game" cutscene.
The levels felt a little bit repetitive, maybe you could tweak this by using different colors on each level.
Gameplay works nice, even with a touchpad. I did however miss a XP bar for the level ups. In my perception they just appeared randomly.
All in all: well done!
However the gameplay broke the immersion for me. Clicking fast on slow moving shapes doesn't fit the relaxing atmosphere, for me at least. At first I was a bit bored, waiting for the progress bar to fill (small detail but red on red is hard to read). After some time forcing myself to play because I wanted to see the next cutscene, I got almost anxious from waiting and beeing under tension at the same time. This is why I left the game, after a few levels.
This is still obviously a very solid entry ! And it is only my experience. Well done guys ! 4/5
I don't think the high speed clicking worked as well with the chill/calm atmosphere but apart from that, I loved it!
I want to praise your artist. They've done a very good job on the art style; it's simple and plain, yet cute and charming. Same goes for the music. It set the tone of the game really well and interacts greatly with the story. Talking about the story...
I see it's the main focus of the game (as you also claimed yourself), and while I think the story is executed well in the sense that it's clear one by exclusively showing - no telling, the story in and of itself is a pretty mediocre and cliche one. It worked well as an add-on to the game, and it was interesting to see it evolved, but the ending fell flat for me. Heartwarming and happy, sure, but it didn't feel satisfying enough.
I want to applaud you for telling the story through gameplay too. The game grew gradually more difficult (well... "difficult", it took longer and more effort to fill the bar at least) as it became more difficult to maintain the love between the characters. That's an impressive thing to pull off right, and I don't see many people doing it anymore. That entire concept fell a bit flat with the last part though, where the relationship was stronger than ever, but the difficulty stayed. I understand the rising "difficulty" curve, because that's logical in games, but it was a let-down for the concept of integrating story into gameplay, sadly.
Forgive me for the essay on the game (and more specifically its story). I'm very passionate about game design and writing in games, so if a game has story, I just can't not talk about it. I also don't want to say it's a bad game. I enjoyed playing it very much, and you did a very good job on it.
Graphics are very beautifull!
You done a good mix of genres, good job.
Gameplay wise, hmm. Kinda lacking. Sorry. But good job anyway.
Great work.
Gamewise I had couple problems. I was kinda missing those tower defence tropes, like placeable stuff and area effects for the special abilities. Special abilities also could have been more clearly explained, now I was left bit confused what each did. And only way to find out was just click them, and after completing the game I still wasn’t sure what one of them did. Letter felt too powerful, and combined with the “heal”, levels were not challenging at all. Until the last one. I didn’t notice the decay effect on “the love meter” until the last level. And in that it felt bit artificially making level more challenging.
Overall I enjoyed the story and playing your game, despite few flaws. Visuals were unique and perfectly made. Music fitted the mood perfectly too. Game as whole felt really complete and well thought out, awesome entry!
Congrats <3
