This time around, I’ve gone a bit non-conventional for my game, and made a Discord bot that runs a game in a Discord server for you! I’ve never made a Discord bot before, so this was (mostly) a ton of fun to make! If you're familiar with Mafia/Warewolf, you might be familiar with this game ;) This is also my first time running anything on an AWS server, so that was a learning curve.

Instructions

  • Just jump in and follow what the bot tells you to do!
  • This requires at least 5 people in the game to work well. (4 might work, but it doesn’t make a balanced game).
  • Once you have all players in the server, run the start command (below) for the bot to configure your server. Please note, once the game has started, no new players can join, and if any leave, the game will probably break.
  • Please note, the Server Owner will be able to see every channel, which isn’t configurable by discord. Unfortunately, I am relying on people being honest with this and not cheat. I recommend the owner right clicking the '#dead' and '#infected' channels and muting them as soon as the game starts.

WARNING!

BEFORE YOU PROCEED: START A NEW DISCORD SERVER FOR THIS! THIS WILL DELETE ALL NON-REQUIRED CHANNELS BEFORE THE GAME STARTS! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

If you’re sure about it, go ahead and type ‘!startgame’ in any channel. This will delete all other channels and begin the game.

Verry interesting idea to make the game a Discord Bot, but I was unable to get it to Work. I also don't have 5 people to play it with me.

Hmm for some reasons both of the link dont work for me. One says Invite Invalid and the other asks me to choose a discord server from an empty list.

@nam-nguyen Sorry, the community server invite expired (I copied the wrong link). It should now work.

With the invite, you need to create a new server to invite the bot to first.

Completly different experience, I loved it. Bash out those bugs and fix the overall game more, maybe turn it into a standalone application. This has HUGE potential. Great job!

Hey not so tied up with the theme but definitely was a fun experience, even when I was the first dead person and can only sit and watch hahaha. But honestly, if you can mute everyone while they were supposed to sleep, that would really help the infected guy to hide his identity without worrying about the typing sound. Dead people shouldnt be able to see who is infected, but should still be able to join chat, maybe would be best if you can change the person's name color. Again, all the minor details, I think the game has great potential. GJ!

Whoah! Wish I could give this ago, and I hope more people see this since not many people will be able to play.

Hope some gameplay pops up so that those without discord or without the LD savvy discord friends can see!

Ah Love the mafia gameplay! I wonder if this could be turned into a discord pasttime, sort of like the games in Facebook Messenger? I could totally see people running games like this in their group chats. Watched the stream and liked what I saw, keep it up!

Thanks @adrisj7! There was a lot of spaghetti code involved with this, so it's currently not possible to integrate this into an existing discord server, but it's something I want to do once I have some free time!
