Pong_#42 by UnityMember

[raw]
made by UnityMember for LD 42 (JAM)

Pong makes its appearance for the 42nd time on Ludum Dare.

This game requires 2 Players. Made it in the last day of LD, because I couldn't get on my desktop the first two.

Hint: Hit the ball while going up or down to change its direction and speed.

I think the idea was great but sadly there are too many situations where the game just end up playing alone, here are 2 examples:

![pong2.png](///raw/82d/8/z/193e6.png)

In the first image the ball was just stuck between 2 red obstables.

In the second one we just had to not move and wait...

Liked the concept. Although I don't have any friends to play it with.

I'm sorry, but it seems to be not very functional :(

yhee I break your game :D the ball was stuck between 2 red squares and it flew off like a particle in an LHC.
the art looks good but I don't understand what this game has to do with the theme.

@xwilarg Yeah, the game really likes to softlock itself. I had no time to do any testing, so I'll roll out a patch/update outside the Jam for anyone who gets this kind of thing a lot.

Thanks for playing!

@mosaic This happens sometimes with WebGL Unity games. Reloading the page might solve it.

@UnityMenmber I tried this multiple times and then gave up. Maybe my Computer doesn't support something. Anyway, I hope it's good :)

Great work for only 1 day. I had to play with myself though :(

@dragongino A block spawns every time you hit the sides of the arena with the ball. As a result, the arena starts filling with blocks, making things harder and harder for the two players.

Thanks for Playing!

I liked the twist on pong and it is nice for one days work, would have been nice to have some simple up and down AI so the game would not be played alone. I also got the bug where the game just stops due to the ball moving back and forth between boxes. I felt the theme was only slightly there. I think with some AI and maybe weirder physics for the ball so the bouncing back and forth between two paddles wouldn't happen, would greatly improve this.

I always liked when someone take some classic games and improve it to Ludum Dare theme. Overall, the game its good, but the lack of a interesting art style and audio make game a little bit worse. Still, I think it is a solid submission, nice work.

I always enjoy playing pong against myself! Nothing wrong with re-making a classic. Definitely think there's some potential in the idea of the play area filling up.

@dumivid I agree, I could have done a lot better with the presentation, but was also afraid I wouldn't make it in time. Thanks for playing the game!

Hey I think the reflection of the ball could have some work on, such that it should go to an angle when it collides near the end of the bar. Also placing locks on the arena as square boxes does not bring as much variation to the game as placing circles. I highly recommend trying to place circles instead, it would be pretty fun. As someone said earlier, an AI would work as well. Anyway, a really good start, you can add more on top of this game easily, like boosts and all.

@nam-nguyen The ball bounces off depending on the momentum a player hits it with. My game is really bad at explaining that, but I sure could somehow communicate this to the player.
Also, circles instead of cubes sounds good and I'll definitely try that. My only concern is if the game becomes even more unpredictable than it already is. xD

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the game, it means a lot to me!
