I think the problem isn't about difficulty spike but more about the fact that your game is very punishing. You can collect 5 coins and unlock 5 doors, but if you fail to do the last one, you have to do it all over again, which makes the game quite tedious. Levels are quickly getting supra big and one failure means 1 minute of just pushing keyboard arrows. Apart from that, you made a nice work, good job !
I will consider all of the things You have pointed out and most likely add them in Postjam updates.
@syrapt0r @rother-games @dragongino I had in plans adding medium difficulty levels during the jam, but after implementing game mechanics I found out that I don't have enough time. But I plan adding more levels(medium also obviously) Postjam.
@demn @pla I will consider making mechanics(in Postjam update) , that moves player back for example 5 blocks if he's stuck. Or at least mechanics that will solve this problem.
@demn I struggled during the event to make some music, but I couldn't. I'll try for sure making some decent sounding 8-bit music Postjam.
I don't think the difficulty spike is that much a problem of difficulty (I even thought all levels were pretty straight forward), but of size. A single mistake at the very end of a big level forces you to start over, even if you understood the begining of the level.
Maybe shorter levels, or smaller parts linked with a checkpoint system would be more forgiving, and would better keep players engaged.
However, the mecanics were introduced through levels, and not through a tutorial, which is really nice (and you feel smart understanding it). So that's a huge quality. And each level (at least in the begining) was built around a new concept.
Plus the game was rather cute ^^
Keep it up !
Nice work overall!
With a few little extras. Great idea. The difficulty jump is jarring! Maybe on the later levels removed unneeded long corridors. The goal should be solving the puzzles.
Well done!
The last Escape back to the menu didn't seem to do anything, so I had to Alt-F4 out of the game.
Overall, Great job!
