SALVATION*

Game made for Ludum Dare 42 - theme: Running out of Space

You found yourself in what seems to be... hell. In the distance, a cone of light, maybe your salvation? Watch out for lost souls falling from the sky that may hit you, and hurry up, the salvation light is getting narrower and narrower!

UPDATE version 0.2.0 post-Jam available!

How to play: simply use WASD keys or arrow keys on your keyboard to walk, and move your mouse to look around.

Tools: Unity, Blender, Photoshop, Logic Pro

Credits: graphics and background music were all made during the Jam; the human breathing sound effect was created from the youtube video Heavy Breathing Man Sound - Man Breath Sound Effect | Ver.1

Nice work. It made me feel something. Not sure what XD. Nice shader on the blood/liquid. Ragdoll was effective. The audio was good made me feel uncomfortable, i imagine that was its intent. Overall needs something more to keep interest up.

This game is very artistic! But unfortunately it didn't have any goal or anything like that, so I didn't have too much fun. But it was very, very eye-pleasing. So a big 5 for the graphics, design, audio and mood! :)

@disco , @sarneh , thanks for your kind comments! Indeed, for the next jam I plan to have a better balance between presentation and gameplay, since this time I used a good portion of the 72 hours on the former rather than focusing on the latter. @sarneh , the goal of the game is to be able to reach the cone of light that shrinks with time - this is the connection between my game and the theme of the competition!

@riccardo-sioni Oh! I thought that it was some kind of a goal, but I got already bored of running for it (not running into the corpses was not too challenging). But that's just my opinion :) Still awesome job! :)

Wow that was actually quite.. scary? Managed to avoid the souls for quite a time before one slammed into me. A really creepy mood that was very interesting. Good job!

The retry button doesn't work. Also I didn't understand why I lost. Doesn't seem I was hit by anything.

Stellar mood on this one. The first couple times I played it, I ran blithely ahead until I got hit by a sinner. After that, I hung back a bit and just took in the view and contemplated my inevitable fate. After a while, I tried to make it around the most dense sinner areas, but salvation always seemed too far away. Contemplative, and visually very interesting. Thanks for making this.

it is atmospheric and pretty freaky- in a good way. just not so much else to as walking arround in spirals yet ;: )

Very contemplative game, you took a classic turn on the theme but put it in a very unconventional way, which makes the game really interesting.

I felt like the sound effect of the character being scared and breathing was a little too much. This isn't really about the sound volume, but more about the fact it is constant, and breaks a bit the simulation / invitation to become the character in my point of view.

Felt like you wanted to create something like in Amnesia or other FrictionalGames' types of games, which I really liked, so props for that :D The music is good in my opinion, I just feel like you could have lowered a bit the scared breathing, and put the music a bit higher.
Thanks you for making this game, I had some fun trying to go through hell without getting crushed by bodies :D

I never really know how to rate 'mood' on most games here, but this one definitely has a mood. The whole creepy ambience is really well done. One thing I think can be improved on the audio/visual side is the cone of light, I think it needs more motion/sparkle/particle effects to bring it to life more, make it really look like the beacon of salvation it should!

@cristihkj , @demn , @psiv , thank you all for the positive feedback! :) Indeed, I focused a lot on shaping the mood of the game as I originally intended. @demn , the music is very basic at the moment, just a simple chord. I plan to continue working on it to make something like a more full-fledged BGM. Also, I really want to improve my particle game! :D As @psiv said, it's a little too rudimentary at the moment.
