SteamRush by Tralius

Greetings participants of the 42nd edition of Ludum Dare,
We decided to participate at our first competition of this type. We decided to create a rogue-like dungeon game. The main character, Larry, decided to enact his revenge on his corrupted uncle, Harry, for having killed his beloved Jenny. The uncle was expecting this and trapped the protagonist in the seemingly endless headquarters of his mining corporation.

Join aboard Larry's quest for revenge and kill the soulless remains of Harry's steam powered robotic workers.

Thank you for checking out our game and we hope you will enjoy it.
P.S. Controls: W,A,S,D - Movement; Fire1 (left mousebutton) - Shoot; Space - Dash; C - Push Ability;

The gameplay was kind of a bad experience for me, though. Each restart would take a few seconds to boot, and in that time enemies would kill me before I had a chance to see my character. On the runs where I had time to actually play the game, the enemies seemed to move too fast and have too big a hitbox for me to properly avoid them. I would have liked a less of a focus on the enemies and more of a focus on the crumbling floor, as that might have fit the theme better.
Overall, I'd recommend this game for the unique music style. Maybe other players will be luckier or more skilled than me.
There's a problem with the dashing system, though. The only time you really need it is when you're in front of a 1-wide path with holes and you have no other option than use the dash. In times like this, it's very hard, I couldn't figure out how to ^^' Maybe it would have been easier with a controllable jump?
That's almost the only thing that killed me. I never got out of the 3 lives, maybe one life would have been enough :o And I never got to the point when there's no floor anymore either, maybe it should have been quicker.
After I read the Tutorial on my first runs I didn't know I can shoot. :)
It wasn't that easy game for me, I only got around 4000 points max.
The push back ability has a good animation, but has almost no effect at all, it only pushes back the enemies a little bit and only if they stand really close to you, maybe it could be stronger.
There were a lot of insta death where I died before I could move because some exploding bot spawned on me.
There were lots of maps where the portal was right next to me in the second room at the start, but it's cool how you can generate maps.
I dashed in the wall once, and also started a map in the wall, and couldn't die and saw two enemies stuck there too.
And I couldn't figure out how to dash savely, I fall in the holes too many times, maybe I'm just bad. It also has a great animation.
The charachters look good, but they could have different animations when they move and when they stand still.
The theme was well interpret: when you need to go back on the way you come you feel it how you run out of space.
Yup, the music was the best part, it was neat.
It was a good idea, and with some polish it could be a pretty good game.
Before spawning there is a lag that may lead to instant death when enemies spawn right next to you. The dashing-system did not really work for me - I could dash, but was not able to use it to cross holes, so it was rather useless. And I could not figure out how to increase heat to be able to attack(?) enemies.
@bastian The heat increases with each bullet you shoot and at the maximum value lets you use the push ability (press c). Thank you for your feedback.
@darkguardsman Thank you for your feedback. We'll hopefully work more on this game and we'll make sure to remember your points.
It makes the game much easier and much more playable.
Still i do not see any use in the push ability since I can shoot. I updated my ratings ;)
Cheers
