Minotaur Maitre D by Steve Moore

[raw]
made by Steve Moore for LD 43 (JAM)

Sacrifices will be made, and as the Minotaur Maître D' it's your job to get them to the alter table without getting offered up yourself!

Use the arrow keys or a,w,s,d to move. Collect the blue triangle offerings and get them to the yellow alter. Once an offering is on the table the orange Minotaur will head to it. You can keep placing offerings on the table, but don't let the Minotaur catch you! Time is of the essence as the Minotaur will get faster the longer you take.

Each level will require more offerings to finish, and the Minotaur will be a little faster at the start.

Every level is auto-generated, so as many as you can complete :D Thanks!

@isaque-picao-sanches I found it pretty easy to use, although I didn't get much time to tweak it as I wanted. The Minotaur kind of gets caught on the corners as he moves around. Once I got the hang of it, it worked pretty well though. Having said that, it seems like there is a lot in it, and I only spent like an hour getting it up and running. So I'll be keeping it in mind for future stuff. (Unless I really want to roll my own, but I doubt that'll happen :) )

Game works well and smoothly, and is fun to play. Maybe it would need better graphics, and some music. Also maybe there could be some sort of power ups to make the gameplay more interesting

Good game. I love how the enemy charges at you when you are near him .Just a few tips: Remove the fullscreen button from the Itch.io, it stretches the game view, you can do it in the "Edit Game" settings, also have just one triangle spawned at a time, when you bring one at the alter just instanciate a new one. Grat game nonetheless ;)

@vlad-ilisan Good call on the fullscreen button. (I just pulled it out of the html page now) I went back and forth on the only one or more than one triangle, I'll revisit that when go to improve the whole thing for version 2. Thanks!

@wie Yeah, better graphics and sound/music were both cut due to time. (Since it was just me, my resources were limited haha!) Powerups are an interesting idea though... thanks!

Game worked great on Linux with Firefox 63.
Idea is good, but I found it to be a little bit too slow paced for my liking. Slightly tighter controls and more movement speed for both the minotaur and the player would have made the game more interesting for me at least :)

I really liked the idea and the feel in the game! And how it was possible to fool the Minotaur by luring it into other places. For me I would like to have seen better control, or different controls perhaps. It was not tight enough. It was also a bit too easy and since not much changes I kind of gave up 7-8 levels in. As someone suggested already powerups or something like this would have made it more interesting. And of course music and sounds, but I know time is not easy to find to do all you would like. =) Good work!

Wow, what a cool game! After I first saw the screenshot I was a bit skeptical. But then I started playing and realized how much fun it was. It starts fairly easy but after a few levels it can get really difficult. In the beginning I sometimes steped in front of the minotaur so that charging towards me would lure him away from the altar. During the later levels I realized that this is not the best strategy because he becomes really fast ;) Still those moments of just escaping him by a few pixels were really intense and fun. The best score I could get was 33. I am not sure if it is a problem with my browser or something but unfortunately I didn't have any sound and music. I have to admit that the graphics are not the most detailed and don't look like a minotaur or an altar :) But after a while I got used to them and started to like the simplistic design that doesn't distract from the gameplay in any way. I also liked the huge variety of levels. Were they randomly generated? Because of the creative idea and all the fun I had, I am really happy that I found this game. Good job! Of course feel free to check out our game if you want to :)

Really fun game, felt "Pac-Man-y" at times. Its strongest point is without a doubt the implementation of the Minotaur, which behaves in a way that keeps the game interesting.

Pros :
- Floaty controls are the first ingredient to the fun of this game
- The Minotaur behavior is the second ingrediant to the fun of this game
- Clear goals, readable graphics, and generally polished entry

Cons :
- Lack of general visual/audio feedback (especially when collecting triangles)

All in all, great job !

Audio is very much needed and the game gets repetitive. The graphics are extremely simple, try at least adding a little better graphics if you participate in the next jam. I see other players disagree with me but I personally would've preferred more responsive and less floaty controls. Well done for submitting and for implementing an infinite level generator!

@ludovico what browser were you using? Just tried it here with Chrome on a mac and it seems to work fine.

this is a pretty cool game. I think the controls are a bit "laggy". I think you could probably tighten them up for the player character and leave them that way for the Minotaur. Sound would be nice and maybe some particle systems somewhere. A chomp sound when the Minotaur gets the offering, a collection sound when we pick it up. A word flash when you pick up something or need to run. Somethings like that would change the way it plays a bit

A nice little game! I would probably have kept playing for longer if the graphics were less minimalistic, but as it is it's very functional and easy to understand. (Also, is there no sound? I didn't hear anything. In that case maybe you want to opt out of audio rating)

@picapica Hrm, I thought I did go back and opt out of audio. I'll try to do that again, but yeah I didn't get a chance to go back and add sound. (Was lower on the list of things to do :) ) Thanks for the feed back!
