Yup, that's a real job that people have and this is a game about that job.

A job where males are sacrificed because they are useless.

Put the female chicks in the pink bin on the right and dump the non-egg laying useless chicks in blue bin on the left.

I'm afraid you'll need to plug in a gamepad to partake in the wonderful world of chick sexing.

Controls:

Left and right stick: Control the robot's arm.

Right trigger: Closes the robot's claw.

D-pad and A button to navigate the menu.

NEWLY ADDED Keyboard controls:

A and D keys: Rotate the robot's arm.

Left and Right keys: Rotate the robot's forearm.

Space bar: Closes the robot's claw.

Up, down and enter keys to navigate the menu.

Long time player, first time participant of Ludum Dare.

An addendum: The controls on the robot arm are set exactly to the angle of the game pad sticks.

A gameplay tip is that you have to be careful and smooth with your motion. Make big smooth circle with the game pad sticks and you'll be able to move the chicks within the claw or with the arm itself.

Think of it like the claw machine at the arcade, if you whip that thing back and forth you aren't picking up any chicks.

Broken for me.

Ahhh sorry. Does the game work? Or just the physics are broken? Having just watched someone else play this for the first time I now realise the I need to provide further explanation on the mechanics. I'll add them to game description.

Why does this need administrative permission?

No reason. I just learned how to stop it doing that. All fixed.

Haha, this is great. Only thing that would make it better is if the physics objects interpolated towards the axis positions, to prevent sudden chick loss if you have poor motor skills. Plus then you can throw chicks around!

Nice game but I'll still enjoy my chicken nuggets. :O

Good information about what the game is. The game must always be accessible with a keyboard (if you'll deploy it for computers like Windows) because not everyone has a joystick. It's weird for me to handle the crane to get the chicks, that's why I ended up pushing them harshly with the crane instead. Quite fun.

Thanks for the feedback. Now that you've said I must add keyboard features I've figured out a way. Before being forced I just thought it wouldn't work. I'm away from my computer for a few days but there will be an update.

Quirky little game, I had fun playing it! Getting used to the crane was hard, but it wasn't too frustrating once I took it slowly. Instead of making the game have set 'loads', I think it would be better to take a level-based approach. That way you can add different walls and obstacles that the player has to maneuver the chicks around in order to drop them in their pens. If you feel that wouldn't work for your game, I would also suggest a timer or score system(besides just the number of chicks correctly placed). These would give the player more satisfaction when they finally manage to get the chicks in their correct spots. I like how unique this game idea is though and feel you've done a good job with implementing it all

Nice idea, but it was really hard to play for me, because the chicken mostly went through my claws cause of my imprecise controlling. I now that's kind of the gag, but it would be a bit easier, if the claw does not jump to it's target position, but moves there fastly. This prevented me from even trying to get the right chicken out of the box, which should be the real goal of the game I think :)
Good that you made a tutorial, it was very clear, what the player had to do!

It doesn't seem to recognize my controller no matter what. A keyboard/mouse alternative is always highly appreciated. :)

It's rather entertaining, though controls are indeed a bit hard, especially with the left stick. Still fun, and I love your sense of humour. Good job

Well, that was amusing. If only female chicks actually wore little pink bonnets in real life, that would make this job so much easier (haha).

The uselessness of this crane makes the arcade crane machines seem absolutely easy in comparison! However, there is a trick to it -- forget trying to grab the chicks at all and just use the crane lever as a slide/ramp to guide the chicks to the correct side:

This ended up being the "winning" strategy ("winning" in quotes because it didn't seem like the game would ever end).

Haha, thanks for playing. The original plan was just have an arm that directed falling chicks into buckets so you might be right about the claw.

In the new year I think I'll post a version that locks the chicks into the closed claw.

I know you've already heard this, but I would really love to see keyboard implementation. It seems super fun and charming, I just don't have a joystick to play it with.

Very nice concept and a fun game. At first I didn't realize you have to keep each control stick maximally extended, but once I understood that it was a breeze to control, and quite fun. Well done!
