Welcome to Hyper Space Man

Description

Run out of space by going faster than the speed of light, and escaping the universe itself! Take your slow, annoying little spaceship, mine some planets (or destroy them ), get minerals, upgrade your ship, and escape!

Instructions

  • Hold the right mouse button to fire your thrusters and accelerate towards your cursor
  • Use the left mouse button to shoot
  • Hold the space bar to mine when over a planet or star, but beware of the enemies that spawn from planets and bosses that may spawn from a star
  • Use the escape button to pause the game and upgrade your ship
  • Balance your fuel, health, mining and damage to make it out before the heat death of the universe

Tips:

  • Stars take a while to mine, don't mine the starting star. Try to invest minerals into mining speed early on.
  • Upgrading max speed is necessary to exceed the speed of light, but it might be hard to control
  • The bosses are not easy fights. Stay away from stars early!

Well the game kept me engaging for a while, it's amazing. Although, I could really use a mini map because some times it felt like I wasn't moving at all. Overall it was amazing! Good job

It's a nice game that I just kept playing! Nice idea with the economy and overall a good job! In the background audio, the hi-hat is too prominent in my opinion, but I really like the audio of the boss battle. An idea to improve the sense of movement would be to make the background move in the opposite direction of the player. All in all, a nice game!

Looks really interesting, graphics are nice. You start with a lot of minerals at the start of the game, so much that you can point 4 points into every skill which is a bit much. Music was alright, I can tell it was made in Bosca Ceoli, good attempt. The bosses are a little unfair as their attacks are pretty much unavoidable. Anyways, I think the game is pretty alright overall, great entry.

A good game idea, the music should be improved. The graphics are good.
Try our game too, maybe you'll like it)

One suggestion: it was very confusing how to mine a planet. I was holding space but nothing happened except of the "Mining" label. Later on I've figured it out that I have to hold it a little bit longer. It would be better if there would be some mining progress indicator (like X% done). Anyways it was fun to play! :) Congrats!

Nice entry, it makes me glad seeing a retro-style game, I love those. I love the irony , running out of "SPACE". The audio fits the theme, a nice casual game to play for sure. Well done !

@shinysteel I accidentally uploaded the debugging version which had 10000 minerals to start with. It should be fixed now. Thanks for the feedback!

@sarneh thanks for the feedback, there are dots that show the progress of mining, its just very slow to start off. I'd recommend putting some minerals into mine speed early on to make it faster, but maybe it should start off a bit faster.

I liked the game, and the sense of progression was nice .Thought I felt like the progression was a little too fast, I maxed out my spaceship pretty quick. Once I got more mining speed and damage, I could beat a boss in 5 seconds. I think the game would benefit a lot from a spike in difficulty.
I also enjoyed the little touch of different ways the planets would be destroyed depending on your level, really nice touch :ok_hand:. As for the music, you could give it more of a cosmic vibe :). You could use some reverby bits to bring out the atmosphere, or something like that.

Good luck in the jam you guys!

The game was a bit to easy, I never died and never really had the need for a bigger fuel tank or more health, you start with alot of materials which you can upgrade to much with and when you already have
something fully upgraded right from the start then you have never felt the trouble of being weak in that aspect you have upgraded! The UI fill's up the screen a bit much, and the km/h keeps changing rapidly
between 2 numbers when standing still and minning. Sorry for the criticism, I see some good potential in it that's all, a good entry nonetheless!

Nice old school game with spirit of space pirates! Nice music) But so sad, the stars are dying - the worlds are dying. And no one can stop the destroyer of the worlds...

When I however over a planet and press space then a text which reads "mining" appears but nothing more happens.

@realmar press and hold space to mine. It's quite slow to begin but it will start showing progress. If you want it to go faster invest minerals into mine speed at the start of the game.

I really liked this game. I wanted to keep playing, but also need to keep rating games...

Even though the music repeats, it never got annoying or overbearing and was enjoyable. I like the very original way that you incorporated the theme. It is a direction we talked about going, but didn't. I'm glad that you did.

Fun little game you've got here! I did find one thing that may be a bug, though. While playing the game, you can hit esc to go to the pause menu. If you look at the "how to play" screen from there, when you go back into the game itself, it restarts. At least it did for me :)

@rubixnoob13 We actually didn't get time to add state saving when you go to instruction screen haha - it's probably something we should fix if we update the game. Thanks for the feedback!

Sadly, the game crashed when I try to launch it but the idea looks very nice and fun to play. :)
