Worm Island by pabloplr

made by pabloplr for LD 42 (JAM)

you have to try to hold 100 seconds without running out of space on the island, but if you grow 10 trees you will lose, good luck and have fun.Captura de pantalla 2018-08-13 a las 21.52.09.pngCaptura de pantalla 2018-08-13 a las 21.52.50.png

That's a neat little game. It's deceptively hard. First game I fell off, second game I got to 50 seconds with no trees and I'm thinking "I got this", but then the apples fell faster and I lost at 98 second. Third game was close but I won with 9 trees. For me, that's very good balance. It could have used some sounds and music, but the graphics are neat and it was engaging for the short play time.

My only constructive criticism is that I would like the collision with the tree to be smoother. It was easy to get stuck when in a place where it looked like I could slide on by.

Love the art style.
I expected the worm to eat the apples and grow, but it did not. I just pushed the apples off the island. Was that intended? Anyhow, it was fun to play and the difficulty curve felt good.

Great job with the artwork and coming up with some unique game-play that fit the theme well. If you have ever read the book The Little Prince, it immediately reminded me of Boabab trees from that.

I would have liked to see the lose state (reaching 10 trees) come about more naturally. Like once you physically cannot navigate anymore or there is no more surface area for the trees to grow, as opposed to a set number of trees.

Very well done overall though.

I think it's a bit too hard, especially because in the end you get stuck between the trees. Also it's annoying that you often get stuck at the edge. The idea is very nice and innovative though. I also really like the artstyle, a bit sound wouldn't have hurt. It would also be nice if you could go backwards.

I liked the idea, it felt weird that once you fell off the world you have to restart on your own as there wasn't any game over. Controls said "w, a, s, d to move" but the S key wasn't doing anything which made the game quite hard to play. I enjoyed the graphics and think your game would be better if it had some audio. Good job!

Cool concept and nice game. The main issue I had was that it was easy to get stuck between the trees.

Nice entry, Keep it up.

I liked the concept and the art ! It looked really funny. The quirky movements make for some interesting gameplay (I discovered half way through the game you can swipe apples while swinging your body).
I managed to win with two trees.

The fact that apples are gradually falling faster allows you to experiment the gameplay before it starts to get overwhelming, which is really pleasant.

However, I am not sure a worm was the best way to convey your idea for the game, as I thought it would eat apples, and maybe grow taller, not push them.
And you should have warned before the end of the game that pressing space restarts the game (I thought it was for eating apples X) )

Other than that, it is a really solid entry. Keep it up ^^ !

Nice idea! But sometimes trees grow just in the air, while it were falling off the edge

Nice concept. Sometimes the worm gets stuck on top of a tree. I also like the low poly style. You got the main mechanics finished and know you can experiment to improve the game in general.
