SOCKET PUNCH!

Socket punch is a fun twist on the brawler genre. You play as a rebel robot fighting hordes of enemies whilst simultaneously managing your power. Your power is both your health and stamina bar, where moves and actions will drain both health and speed. Luckily there are power outlets from which you can recharge, with your retractable power cable. We added a global highscore so you can compete with other players and the devs!

The game was made by Simex, Hengen and Ganiester

programming: simex and Ganiester

Art: Hengen

All the assets except the music, were created by us during the 70 hour ludumdare gamejam.

Soundfx was made with "brfx" Unity 3ds max 3dcoat photoshop

We had a great time this weekend creating socket punch, and we hope you enjoy the game just as much as we had creating it.

RC5-2 Changes: * (Hopefully) fix a bug that would cause the tutorial elevator to leave without you * fixed a bug where going out of bounds would crash the game * fixed a bug where the power cable did not line up with the cursor * fixed a bug that would allow you to enter the elevator with the power cable still connected

This was super fun, very good job. Loved the pixelated look and the robot models a lot. Punching them and seeing them drop like a sack of potato :D I would recommend you to improve the punching animations some more, I could give a much better feeling.

This is a great concept and I would love to see it developed further. A little glitchy and I didn't understand the hooking onto things but it was fun.

Fun game. There was a lot of polish in the tutorial and the setup, which I liked a lot. Really helped with figuring out how to play the game. There was some clipping issues I noticed with walls and such, and could cause the camera to get a little weird. It also would have been good to have more visual feedback when the player gets hit, like a screen shake or a prominent red border or sound effect or something. There were times where I would get melted from the back without even realizing it. It also felt like the special attacks weren't really worth using, as the power drain felt more punishing to use than to just punch a bunch.

A solid game with a great idea fun controls and really good music. Those voice lines were a great addition too that add a lot to the charm.

That was really fun! I feel that perhaps the swarms of blue guys didn't pose much of a challenge once you get the rhythm of the game and the variants don't do to much then stimulate the game for the player with "guys I can't punch super easy who are the same" or "guys who are faster". Still a good game to be proud of!

Good game! The mass killing combined with the health/stamina system works surprisingly well. I had a lot of fun playing it.

Very fun game. Love the pixelated look. The music matches very well. Reminds me of Doom. Great Job!

Sometimes its a bit glitchy http://prntscr.com/g30t7e
but other than that it was one of the best games I have seen so far. Maybe you could decrease the pixel effect just a bit.

First off I'd like to say that the graphics are amazing and really suit this style of game. The gameplay, although quite a simple concept, was actually very fun to play and I found myself retrying over and over again just to get into the leaderboard (which I am proud to say I eventually did after about 30 minutes!). There were some issues with the collisions that tend to happen when using transform.translate to move the character, but this didn't really alter the gameplay whatsoever. My main issue, however, was the very odd charging mechanic. I'd find myself wasting precious time trying to get my wire into the charging port which did tend to get slightly frustrating. But overall, this game was a pleasure to play and I'd love to see you guys continue polishing it in the future!

This was an enjoyable game that could be developed in to much more. Would love to see the difficulty of the enemies on the ground start to ramp up. Currently, they come directly at you, so if you follow the line, you can just punch each one. More complex strategy on their part after a while would be great. Got on the leaderboard first try, but that was last night and probably early in the life of the leaderboards. I'm probably not there anymore! Tried to give feedback last night, but it was at submission hour so the site was slow.

Great game, although it is a bit hard to plug into a power socket. Also, in the tutorial, it says "left click to shoot" when it's right click.

Just a little note, remove the "humor" and "mood" voting categories.

This was really fun. I like the look of the robots a lot. The voice lines were a nice touch. My only complaint is that sometimes it was kind of hard to hit the outlet.

Excellent from start to finish. Mowing down hordes of robots is great. Only problems are that there's no way to see if you are getting hit until it's too late and the socket does not follow the crosshair it's a bit below which makes plugging in tricky.

Great aesthetics and a very fun game. Although the movement could be "snappier" and there are some bugs such as wall clipping and some collision problems but overall very great and a polished experience full of features (leaderboards etc). Good job :)

I feel the power! Destroying all the other robots is insane. Leaderboard is a great addition.

This was one of my favorite games (out of 14) today! You did a really good job on this one. Only bit of feedback I can offer is the game needs a lot more aim assist mainly for the cable but it would not hurt to make hitting the flying guys a little easier.

Every time playing this game - I'm stuck in the wall and the elevator leaves without me

I'm so sorry if this has caused issues for you or anyone else, I haven't been able to reproduce the bug but I've upload a new version that should force you up the elevator, so hopefully this works (without creating new bugs)

Neat game. Nice style and art design. There is no much thing I can say to help you. The three times I've lost it was because of enemies in my back. The second play I started using only the left hand rocket because it lets me kill the enemies at long distance. Hope this little review helps you to polish this game. I enjoyed for sure. Good luck!

First things first: The machinegun-punch feels so incredibly awesome! (I almost never used any other ability, because beating hordes of enemies with that punch was realy satisfying)

The artstyle is superb as well, gives a really fitting retro vibe without getting messy.

Spectacular brawling this! Neat graphics, solid tutorial, fun for quite a while.

Unfortunately spamming the shoot button didn't jell with me at all. A rapid fire (maybe even spread shot) weapon which drains more energy would have been ace against the flying enemies.

Playing also gave me some motion sickness after a while, not much but enough to put me off in the end.

Another small issue is sometimes not noticing when the pylon I'm connected to retracts again. You could have a plugged-in icon next to the power bar when charging.

Great work overall! I always find things to nitpick about.

The art style, music and gameplay are fantastic (especially the charged rapid fire punch)! Sending hundreds of robots flying at once feels just amazing, great job! :D I have one (very) minor gripe though. Charging up at the pylons seems to be a bit too overpowered. When you're connected you're basically indestructible :D

All in all one of the best LD entries I've played so far :D

I found it bad that the ranged enemies could hit me through the pillars, also I found it a bit abusable that I could do circles around the pillar while i was plugged in. Shooting, dodging, and punching all felt super good. The enemies felt numerous but not super overwhelming becuase my movement abilities were plentiful. It would be nice if you got additional score somehow for killing enemies.

Great game. Had a lot of fun! A bit more feedback while punching would have been nice even if i like the ragdoll physics of the enemies. But the sound was great and i really liked the intro scene! Well done! :)

Interesting twist on brawler, pretty polished too.
Attaching to socket should probably be automatic, when you near the outlet.
