Super Bario Man by tgb20

[raw]
made by tgb20 for LD 41 (COMPO)

For LD41 I have made a game combining Turn Based Card Games and Platformers. Together I present Super Bario Man.

Didn't have time to write a tutorial so please read the instructions

Note: Seems I forgot to upload the newest version but it's too late now. In some levels the grass tile goes two deep, and it seems that the changes I made to the level generation system didn't go through or I forgot to apply some settings as you can use a move 2 card to move through the terrain. Features, not Bugs

Instructions: - The cards explain what they do - Right Click a card to view it, Right Click Again to Play it, Left Click to Dismiss it - After you use a card, unless it says otherwise, the enemy gets a turn, moving one enemy monster. - If you want different cards, discard one, but it uses up your turn - It might be smart to skip your turn if you want to make sure you can kill and enemy monster - If an enemy monster hits you, you lose one heart - You can kill an enemy monster by landing on their head or using an attack card - You advance to the next level when you reach the end - All levels are unlocked if you want to skip around using the level select menu

I am much happier with this game than my previous LD40 game. Even though I got a super late start, about 17hrs late, I got a lot done and feel happy. Wasn't able to do everything I wanted to do with the game but its playable and works so thats good! I also had to leave in the default Unity launcher as I didn't have time to add a settings menu besides the volume switch.

Things I wanted to do but couldn't: - More Cards like powersups or multipliers - Ranged Attacks - A ranged enemy - An actual story was planned where you would play as Bario, then Buigi, and finally Beach, before fighting the mighty Bowser, but I finished core gameplay and Bario sprites 30min before the deadline. (This also explains why the main characters animation is based on Mario. I wanted it to be clear that its supposed to be like Mario, without actually ripping the sprites.)

It's certainly playable, and the graphics is nice. The music is too repetitive and gets really annoying after a while. But overall it's a good try. I know, two days, no team - it's tough.

Hi!
I agree with the previous comment, the music was way too repetitive, had to mute it to keep on playing. I love the graphics and the fact that you can discard cards. I didn't really get the point of the move count, it would go to 0 when jumped and to 7 when moving on the ground. Collecting coins did not do anything either, wish there was a count for them. There were some bugs, like moving to the right through ground and grass. Overall, it is a very good entry given the hours you were behind! good work. Fell free to check out my game!
