Infinity Search by FlashViper

[raw]
made by FlashViper for LD 42 (JAM)

The universe is becoming too overpopulated! Journey across a desert beachland as Shmanos, the purple heavyweight (who DEFINATLELY does not look like the blockbuster villain) on a mission to gather the 6 infinity gems and half the population of the universe. Shmanos on his own is defenseless, and must gather items in order to defeat the Kwab guardians protecting the stones. But Shmanos has a problem. Whenever he uses an item, he uses up the space that the item takes up! Inventory slots will vanish when a slot is vacated, causing Shmanos, and therefore you, to choose judiciously on how to use his many items! Find actually secret areas (Original Zelda-Like), collect items, and have fun!

Controls: W/A/S/D: Move Z: Use selected item X + Mouse Hover: Pick up item / Open chest 1-9: Select Slot

Perfectly balanced.

It was a bit hard to move around, I got stuck on walls a bunch and a few times I walked into a new room and it didn't load it, causing me to have to restart :(.

I like the idea you had though. Shmanos sure is a real hero ;)

I don't feel so good...

I feel like mouse buttons would have been more intuitive than z and x to gather and use items. Also, I had some sticking to the wall and not loading rooms issues that logicon211 had. I was able to walk back and trigger the load on the third try, so I'm not sure what it was.

Otherwise the game was good and reminiscent of old Zelda.

Controls issues but excellent work nonetheless! :)

Very ambitious project!

Few things that bothered me:
1) There were some issues with the walls - I kept not being able to get into tight spots even though it was obvious you're supposed to be able to pass them.
2) I had some bugs where I would cross to a different screen but the camera won't move with me
3) Controls were pretty unintuitive (using the mouse to pick up objects) and weren't explained in-game (next time please assume people only read your tutorial on the LD page after they fail once or twice at your game :) )

Overall I had fun with it.

Honestly, Thanos can take those crabs straight to hell with him!

Fun, but those crabs were TOUGH

"This does put a smile on my face".

But in all seriousness, like many had mentioned, the control was somewhat confusing to play, and there were glitches where the camera wouldn't transition to where the player was at which result in the crabs beat the sh1t out of me :( . Overall, I think the game was solid, but need a little of bug fixing.

Good job!

The controls were really difficult, and holy cow the crabs kill you fast. Still, I loved the graphics and the sound was pretty good! Really innovative idea too. Good level design.

Like said before, the game needs bug fixing but I really enjoyed playing it anyways! The level design is great and the choice of music is nice.
Really good work for an idea so ambitious.

Thank you all for your feedback. I a aware of most of the bugs, I just didn't have enough time to fix them. The Infinity War references make me crack up, thanks! :)

Really good concept, and liked the cheesy, yet oddly funny, art. I loved the music and the secret walls that you could open up; it was fun exploring the map, going to a new place every time one of those superhuman crabs killed you :) Got stuck a few times between areas, and the controls took a while to get used to, but overall I enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed the premise of this game! The zelda-style exploration was fun, and the music was well done! The controls took time to get the hang of, and moving between areas sometimes stalled, but I had fun playing it. But you throw another crab at me, and I'm gonna lose it.

It was enjoyable despite the few bugs I liked how Shmanos and the crabs were like the meme "Oh, you !" in the menu screen of the game x)
I would make Shmanos's hitbox smaller though (exclude the head and upper body) as it feels kinda weird to be hit on these parts
The music fits pretty well too !

@inferture I agree, looking back on it, I need to make him skinnier. The likeness to the meme is not intended (I haven't even heard of that one), but that's an interesting coincidence.

Even when explained the game is kind of confusing, I get destroyed so fast too by the crab people.

There doesn't seem to be a way to exit the game after you have opened it, also Thanos gets 1 hit? What magic is this!

Was funny seeing Thanos in the game jam. The game reminded me of the very first zelda. Although the controls are not very clear or intuitive. Also I don't really know what relationship it has with the theme :(

@even-games Your inventory looses a slot every time you use the last of an item (i.e. using a bow, placing the last bomb in a stack, etc.). I'm sorry if this wasn't clear enough... Also, overpopulation: running out of space in the universe. IDK, but I do agree that the controls are a little clunky, and really should have received some tweaks. Thanks for your feedback!

Simple, fun with great reference to pop culture  Equipment system is a little bit not obvious, but overall it is the cool game.

Hey, man, this game haha, the idea of Th--- ops, i mean, Shmanos to deal with the problem of the superpopulation was very nice haha
I might say i am a fan of Zelda so yeah i could feel the references, very good!
The idea of the inventory being reduced is very nice too, because like that you need to think carefully of wich item to use and all...
I just had some problems while walking around, because i couldn't pass through some blocks that had an oppening , only when he was side turned... and sometimes after i passed to another map the camera didn't go with him, only if i came back and then gone again.
But i had fun, it was a good game, thank you!

Cool idea of make inventory one use slots. The bounding boxes on the character and environment was a little wonky. Sometimes the area would be clear and the character would get suck, and often it would look like you could go off to the next room and you are blocked by nothing. To fix the first, you could shrink the hit box slightly into the characters, and for the second, just make sure the edges that you can't walk through are drawn with a barrier that matches the collision box.

Great adventure-like concept that I wanted to explore in depth, but the random collisions got the better of me. I still enjoyed the game and especially the funny way you exploited the theme.
Great work! Oh and great music!

I bet this is the one timeline where Thanos was defeated. It's the crabs, Dr. Strange! A very simple game but pretty enjoyable. Love the dungeon, reminds me of Zelda. Good game!

Nice game even though it has some rough edges :) I like sticking to the classic room feel rather than panning - it's so easy to pan these days that keeping a retro room swap felt very rewarding to play. Nice music too :)
