Snobs like it clean! by GentlemenTeaparty

[raw]
made by GentlemenTeaparty for LD 42 (JAM)

We squires work Day by Day for these snobs and how do they thank us? They scream at us! So Gather, my Comrades! And kill as many snobs as you can! My Snob likes it clean and tidy but all this intestines pile up with all this fighting and My Snob will go crazy if there are too many. But the battlefield is the best method to get rid of him. So I will tidy up and Burn them so i can kill as many Generations of this snobby familie as possible. What a coincidence the devil is right here!

  • You role is to pickup and cremate the body parts, so that the battlefield is clean enough.
  • Upgrade the Monster and make the snob life harder!
  • Upgrade you bag to make you life easier!
  • Your highscore is the number of generations slayed.

I got to level 40/gen29ish. I think by asking the Devil to make things harder for the Snob, it actually meant there were more enemies and more meat--things were going well until I bought that upgrade.

Pretty funny concept, to be honest. I had fun running around as a lowly peasant cleaning up filth. I enjoyed the gameplay loop until I had all the furnaces. Not sure what to do once I get all the furnaces and upgrades.

Nice work!

Really enjoyed the gameplay, though it got really difficult for me after a while. Would be awesome if there was a way to upgrade the furnaces. Anyway, one of the coolest games I've played so far in this jam!

Echo the idea of upgrading furnaces, I played until I got three and it seemed a little slow at times. Love the graphics, especially love the music.

Had a lot of fun running up and down burning bodies. I did run out of space, so I guess the theme was applied well. Well done!

This was extremely fun and I still can't stop playing. The graphics are good, and the music never gets annoying somehow. The picking up sound effect wasn't great, but the controls were so smooth.

Notes:
- all the controls being on one side/hand is a little bit taxing
- reset button needs to not be so close to the most used button (E).
- ending screen shouldn't be swiped away with "any key" because I hadn't noticed I lost and clicked away the message before I got to see how many generations I lasted.
- the devil's (2) upgrade needs to be changed to making the snob hit an extra time on each monster. This would slow down the timer, essentially. This seems fair considering the price tag and description. As it is now, you're just paying a load of money to make the timer go faster against yourself (he still one-shots, but now there's MORE than before, making it messier, faster), with no way to buffer it. It's just a huge, expensive debuff.

I'm only being so nitpicky because it was such a good game and I want to play more.

I'm hope you make an extended version of this, with more upgrades - like speed, faster cremation, super expensive second ladder, etc. Fantastic game, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Please, please make this a bigger game. I need it. ![41.PNG](///raw/7d9/91/z/1a0fa.png)

At first it didn't get clear what the actual currency of the game is and that you obtain it by cremating your slain friends. But after I got the hang of that, it was really addictive to work towards getting the upgrades. I liked the mood of the game, but some more explanations in game would've been neat!

I played this one for a while, for my first playthrough. After a while it got quite repetitive for me. I was climbing up, getting meat, burning it, rinse and repeat.

One thing that a buddy of mine who was watching me play suggested was that it would be more interesting if your safety on the surface from the wildlife depended on the snobby being alive and fighting. I concur with him. I think this would make the relationship between the snobby and the 99%-er much more realistic and subtle.

I think I encountered a bug. As I lost, I was holding one of the directional keys. This registered in the game over screen, which led me straight to the main menu, so I have no idea what my score was.

@jamison thanks for playing our game and for the feedback. The naive idea for the update was more and stronger monster kill more snobs, we forgot the fact that this will be pretty unfair for the player too. We will think about it and improve it.

It seems like a lot of thought was put into this game. More strategy involved than most games in this jam. The only issue I had is that I was in a hurry and wanted the game itself to be intuitive without reading the instructions. Good job on the art style and the programming.
