Woo!! First LD game I've seen with a native Linux build, even though it didn't work for me so I emulated the Windows version>.>

The game itself is not so bad, the graphics are cohesive and have a style, and the audio design is actually very good despite the lack of music. I found the gameplay itself a little lacking; it could have done with some variety or a win condition.

Regardless, I will never not like fighting skeletons on a desert island.

Thanks for giving the game a try! @alexhoratio

The game was also developed on Linux (Ubuntu).

What distribution are you using? I'd love to make the build work for everyone!

Love the tropical setting! Well done :)

It seems to me like when you die you become one of the skeletons that the next 'you' would face.

Quite simple, the 'fighting noise' is satisfying even though the combat could easily be worked on for more satisfaction mechanically. Just a little more complexity or variety (combos? dodge?) would help a lot.

The graphics work well!

@icecheetah these are things (and music, gamepad) i would've loved to implement but time ran out.

Thanks for giving it a try and taking the time to give some feedback!

Good entry, it fits the theme and has nice cartoon-ish graphics. Low-poly models may look basic at first, but I find them great, they give the game a coherent style, something that I see it's really hard to accomplish for games developed in such a small time. Also, the appearing/disappearing-in-the-sand idea is very funny, and it works very well.

IMHO before adding new gameplay mechanics like combo, dodging or an ending, the diagonal attack should be fixed (it was extremely difficult for me to position myself facing an opponent coming from a diagonal, I almost died for this reason only), and it should be possibile to attack while walking (without stopping) to make the game more "fluid" overall.

Hey! I'm running on (and developing on:wink:)a kind of fucked Debian installation, so I don't know if it's your fault. I remember it gave me a problem with a missing dependency, which sounds like something that my borked packaged manager is responsible for. Thanks for caring, though!

I really liked the art style here, and the sound left me a lot more immersed than I expected! The killing enemies was inherently fun, but I was left longing for one more mechanic to help gauge my progress, perhaps a timer? Something to defend? Still well done for the limited time. Thanks for your game!

@alexhoratio

Thanks for responding! Actually it was/is probably a problem with me not packaging all needed libs with the game. I've updated the linux package with a few libs and it's now working on a different distribution that had problems before.

I really like the graphics. The little movement of the water and the shivering sound when the sceletons get up.
Overall it is a really nice game.

Interesting game, I liked the audio part of the game, but I think the ambient was a little too loud.

The controls are kinda iffy, it's hard to kill diagonally.

Other than that, nice game!

overall i think this was a good game but the controls prevented it from being better. they were not very fluid and made combat much more difficuly - very nice graphics - good game

nice game. few things I'd like to see improved:

- a bit cumbersome steeriung with diagonal moves feeling a bit weird
- maybe some "life" of the main hero, so that it's not just one hit to die
- purpose :)

pros:
- nice graphics
- cool tropical vibe

this is very technically impressive considering it's your own engine, good work.

I loved the art here! Gameplay is OK but could have used a bit more - powerups or enemy types or something. At first I thought the way that the skeletons stopped next to you before attacking was strange, but it does as a some strategy. I have to complain about the water sound a bit though... it doesn't sound like an ocean! Haha. But good job!

Fun game to play. It wasn't mechanically deep but it was instantly understandable how to play. I thought the graphics were charming, and although it might not have been intentional, the sound effects were cracking me up while I was playing. Hope to see more from you! Take a look at my game if you're interested!

Really liked the graphics, and the controlling is very comfortable. Things in the game are not very much, but nearly everything exists are neat, nice work!

• Controls are a bit weird, take some time to get used to it;

• Graphics are very nice! Loved the skeleton respawn animation;

• With some kind of 'tropical' music the atmosphere of the game would increase a lot and the humor as well;

• Gameplay is OK, kinda hard to die in one hit but once you get confortable with the game it's pretty easy.

Pretty cool minimalistic survival game. Nice visual effects, particularly when killed skellies are devoured by sand. Could use more gameplay features - lives, powerups, maybe traps or other buildables to help you in your endeavor?

Love the sound effect when you kill a skeleton! Got pretty bored after 4 tries, not that much exciting things after 30 kills(except for fast skeleton). But I had a blast the first 3 tries.

I liked the minimalist aspect of your game !
You have finished in time and it's playable and enjoyable so great job !

If you ever wanted to continue developping this, here are some ideas i would give you : instead of being an endless game, maybe implementing a secret ending by interacting with things on the map could be great ! Since there is more and more stress until the game continues, the more you take to fullfil these secondary objectives, the more it's difficult to finish !

And maybe a rock paper scissor system into the ennemy - player relation could be great to force the player to focus more on them !

It lacked a bit of musics, which could have been great to motivate the player or stress him ! The sounds effects were quite good though !

Anyway i liked the game !
Good job !

I got 34 kills :) Lovin the graphics, this seems like a really solid framework for something with potential. It did feel quite unfinished, without much gameplay or any objective to go off it lost my short attention span fairly quickly.

Nice simple game with really satisfying gameplay, there's not a lot to it but this game is unexpectedly rewarding to play - could be a great core for a more complex game.
