Zone Out 42 is a frantic twin stick shooter game. Although it is heavily inspired by the Geometry Wars games, it comes with its own twist; The walls are constantly closing in and you must defeat the waves before you are squashed in.

The game contains different kinds of power ups and enemies.

This is our first Ludum Dare entry. Our team is comprised of only two programmers, therefore we ended up using only primitive shapes for our graphics with a lot of in-engine post processing effects.

Greate use of the theme, fun and challenging to play, amazing job. I got a high score of 25310.
The red sticks that did nothing seemed a bit out out of place though.

I thoroughly enjoyed your game! Super fun, and a clever interpretation of the theme. The core loop felt really nicely implemented and polished. My only complaint, maybe, is that sometimes at the very end of a level a bunch of enemies would spawn without enough time to kill them. However, this might also be because I need to get better and save up rockets and stuff.

Very good concept, after a few refinements in the gameplay, I'd buy it on Steam a few dollars!

I was a cool twist on geometry wars. I would have liked the camera to stay panned back a bit more so I can see how the map is changing but otherwise very fun!

Very slick and fun to play. Probably the most polished game I've played so far. Great job.

Very fun shooter! It feels really well-polished, and a great use of the "running out of space" theme as well. Nicely done :)

One of my favorites! Got to 10k points =). Very cool take on running out of space. I love how ya'll focused on coding in some awesome mechanics and used some simple visual polish to really make them shine. One thing I'd love to see is a custom mouse cursor, it's pretty easy to lose track of where the cursor is!

@kirb A custom mouse cursor would be a neat and easy change. But it didn't cross my mind haha

Thank you all for the positive comments and the feedback.

@return-null The red sticks are there just to stall you while the walls are closing in since they need a lot of hits to be destroyed.

@scott-steffes Yeah, the size of the camera was a decision we had to make. Being too far would allow you to see more of the map and the borders but it didn't feel as stressful.

Fast and fun gameplay with the theme implemented really clearly, great entry and I will certainly try to get my high score up just a little bit more!

Great game you guys, loved the graphics as they fit the game really well. The gameplay was a frantic as I had hoped! Loved the wall mechanic as HP basically and the levels felt pretty diverse actually :)

Might be nice to have a eased out camera because it feels a little rough with all the quick movements I make in the game. It might also be nice to see a Indicator for how far the walls are away from you outside the screen.

Awesome first entry for a LDjam and I hope to see more of you guys in the future!

The how didn't mention that i could move so i got to third level on the first try without moving. But it became much easier once i could not just move, but dash!

Overall a very fun game. I really liked how the running out of space can be used by the player to actually kill the enemies quicker (e.g. by dashing through them when they have nowhere else to go), creating something of a comeback mechanic.

Despite obvious approach to the theme (It's like every 3-rd game is a shoot-em-up in a shrinking world), it's a very soild entry! It plays and feels really well. It was fun to play, thank you!
