Winter Is Coming by nek0las

[raw]
made by nek0las for LD 43 (JAM)

This game was intended to be a compo entry but it needed more polish.

The rules are as follow

You has to survive for the longest winter you have never seen. Each turn is split into "Morning", "Noon" and "Evening": "Morning" is the upkeep step where you choose between 2 events (mostly with a negative impact). "Noon" is the throwing dice step that decides the amount of Dice Points (dp) you have today. dp are used by drag'n dropping villagers portraits on your village place of interests. "Evening" is the application of effect step. Unless specified, all effect triggered during this turn are resolved now. After which your villagers eat some food before going to sleep. If they don't have food, they get hungry and can starve to death.

Misc

  • 0 villager = defeat
  • survive 15 days = victory
  • Some events are resolve on multiple turns (like "Forest Fire" which repeats 3 times)

Buildings

  • Lake: +1 meal
  • Woods: +1 wood
  • Mine: +1 stone
  • House: +1 dice to throw next turn (in game, it says "debuff dice maluses" but this was not implemented yet)
  • Watch Tower: +1 defence point (used to save a villager if an event says "-1 villager")

I hope you like the idea. I am currently making the game better with more graphisms, sounds, and most importantly I'm working on balancing gameplay and adding new kinds of effect (other than "add 1 wood" and "loose 1 stone").

Feel free to comment ! Any feedbacks are welcome :)

Really cool concept. It wasn't really clear what i was supposed to do at the beginning. Maybe make it more clear in game what everything means would help a lot.

Cheers!

Yes the idea is nice, especially with the choice at the bginning of each turn... but what are the wood and the stone for ?

I think the fire is bugged (it lasts all the game, not only 3 turns), and I have no penalty when choosing actions that require resources I don't have.

Nice idea and base, but you should develop it a bit more, there is no real gameplay for now.

Like someone else mentioned, it was a bit unclear what one was supposed to do. After I figured it out, the game is fairly straight forward, and feels like a nice little mini-game to play. Over-all, a pretty decent experience :)

I like the idea, perfectly fits the theme. A major complainment is that the sprite for the structures are all the same, I learned that the second time I played. Even a minor change would have helped.
The rules has to be redesigned a bit... you can just produce what you're going to consume next turn, so technically I can win just by luck of the random events. I liked the parameters like the block point, but I feel that with these parameters, something more fair could have been created

You haved a fun game with need some polish in the user interface and balance to be grat. I dind't like the fact you lost "dp" right a way you put your workers to decided what to resources get. I will prefer in the end off the turn lost "dp"based of your choises. I dont understand how to use the other resources besides food. To my dosen't fell meaningunf choises because always the righ choise is food. I will like to chose what workes get te food some times preventing some to die.

I really liked the concept. It wasn't entirely clear what the dice did - I could see me using them up for stuff, but I always had way more than I needed. I couldn't seem ever to get more than one food at the pond - I feel like I was missing something there. I couldn't ever seem to make more than one lake, so my guys just died over and over. Also, I didn't know what the wood and stone were for. But I really, really like the layout and the design - I just feel like it needed a little more to link it all together, and then it could be really awesome.
