Rich in Space by Fenerax

[raw]
made by Fenerax for LD 40 (COMPO)

A little but intense game made for Ludum Dare #40 with the theme: 'the more you have the worse it is'. It's set in space where you have to mine asteroids to earn money. However, as you get more money there will be pirates trying to destroy your base and steal your money, the more money you have made the more pirates that want it. Try and make as much money as you can before you get destroyed.

Controls:

  • Pan Camera: WASD / Arrow Keys.
  • Build / Sell: Left Mouse Button.
  • Cancel (Build / Sell): Right Mouse Button.

Cool game, love those pirate's chat bubbles. But the music is a bit annoying :D

Yeah sorry I'm not great at music I just through together some loops in Bosca Ceoil. There is a music slider in the options if you want to turn it off.

I feel like you'll get this a lot but including that music slider was a great idea haha! I love how many different ways there are to build bases, nice work

This game is rly cool! I cant believe you managed to make it so quickly! My biggest issue was that I didn't get it at the beginning, and didn't know I had to build the little circles to then add stuff to it.

This game is awesome! I wish the loading screen had instructions though! I did not understand that I had to add the little circles before I could do anything else.

Is there any other goal than collecting more money?

Anyway, I liked this game. It has a good - and different! - game concept and well-made gameplay.

Nicely done. One of the best I've played so far. Only wish is that you could place buildings repeatedly without having to click to the UI buttons.

I really enjoyed this! I would continue to work on this if I were you, it has really good potential! Adding some new features like goals, enemies, more space structures would make it amazing! Nice job.

Really nice game for the time limit. A fun little base building/resource management game. I wasn't aware that I needed to buy the nodules in order to expand my base and my ships decided to not come closer to the base so I couldn't defend them. I would possibly add a way to call my miners back or send out patrol fighter ships.

I like how simple and easy it is to jump right into the game. I think you need some more feedback tho, when the player runs out of money to use and can't place something (for example).

I would also suggest showing the ranges on how far away you can build new things.

Overall tho, pretty nice!

Intro is a bit long but the game after it. Damn! I had a lot of fun playing, slowly building up my base with its turret perimeter before watching it get blown apart. I'd love to see you continue work on this adding features like: building multiple objects without having to re-click UI, hotkeys, better music (although I didn't mind it that much & the slower version on game over was neat) and highlights when building to see if an object is within range (rather than just clicking like a madman). Loved this entry, keep it up!

Pretty fun multitasking game, building your economy and defenses was pretty entertaining. In my experience most effective tactic was building ring of turrets around the base and economy building inside. Of course as i expanded i was forced to make small sub regions which was pretty fun to build. Art style is pretty and sound effects are fine. Difficulty was a bit to easy, maybe as more money you have there should be more enemy types etc but that of course is if we talk about expanding this project. In overall pretty cool game, really hits my taste, good job!

Really, really nice work! It's of the submissions I've tried that I surprised myself playing longer than most, the graphics are simple and so is the music but the gameplay feels really nice and I love how the difficulty scales progressively. Very nice submission!

I like that music is faster and faster, when you keep playing.

Green and red textures on buildings, or other feedback could be useful for player, to know if he can build in chosen spot.

I like the building system, it was hard to understand the way you could expand at first. But once you got the jist of it it is fun to make your space web station.

Amazing for the first game, spend like 15 minutes building things all over the screen. Pirate bubbles - amazing! Thanks for the game!

Awesome game! Pirate exclamations are very fun to read. Base doesn't collide with asteroids, I think it would be pretty neat to have these kind of threats. Congrats on great entry!

Controls are little clunky at first, but when you learn how to build they works fine. The game is great, a good take on the tower defense genere. Great job in such short time.

Only one issue: please insert an option to skip or speedup the initial text.

Those pirates are funny. The game is really enjoyable especially after the rhythm speeds up as time goes by. Good work.

Great ramp-up of difficulty, fun gameplay, great graphics, and a satisfying explosion sound. This is a great game. The only thing missing is a way to zoom out so I can build even bigger!

Hah, this is pretty fun. I made a total of 272591.60 money and then I hadn't noticed the pirates had access to some vital early-placed connectors, and most of my base collapsed as two of those were destroyed. Like @deathray said, a zooming ability would've been nice. I do wish the intro explanation was a separate menu option so I don't have to sit through it again.

The graphics are good, but feel a little *fullbright* so if you were to continue developing it, that's where I look for polish. The music felt a little random and didn't really suited the theme of the game, but I am glad there was something there in order to avoid a constant repetition of sound effects - which were pretty good bye the way.

Overall a pretty fun entry!

My first impression was "ugh I have to wait for this intro text to scroll by." I'm not a fast reader, but I was still getting impatient waiting for the text to slowly scroll to the end. It'd be nice to have it all on the screen at once, or hold a button to spit it out faster a la Pokemon. Ok enough bitching. Here's a constructive tip: add hotkeys to select the items to build so you don't have to click the item and then click where it's going.

Despite the criticism I did enjoy the game and rated it accordingly. Just wanted to offer some hopefully helpful tips :)

I dunno if I just got lucky, haha, before too long I had a good base (with turrets everywhere like a space porcupine, ha) and none o' them pirates were really doing too much to my base. After a while I couldn't build anything, even though I had $.. I assume I reached some internal limit (?). Anyhow, great job, I had fun!

EDIT: oh and yes, as others have said, I loved the comments from the baddies!
