This is genuinely a great entry. I'm glad I get to be the first to say so.

This was super cool! I loved rolling around and kiting the demons in the game, it made me feel super bad ass! One thing that took me a few rounds to realize was that you needed to paint inside the shape. Unless I'm just dumb and missed it I would be nice to point out to the player that they need to paint inside the shapes. Super good game though! Great job!

@Gavin Camlin Ah yeah great feedback I'm sure I could make that more clear. I thought about making the start button a zone you had to shoot blood into but I was super strapped for time

On a mac so can't play, but the video is a compelling sell! Gratz on the game, GG!

A very enjoyable experience. I love the way it felt, and very neat concept of coloring a coloring book using the blood of your enemies! (I did find something weird though, I didn't know how to exit the game, had to Alt + F4, so you might look into that, unless I overlooked something! (Same thing I posted on itch.io)

Noooooo - I need a Linux build! Though, I'm terrible at coloring in the lines, so I'd probably be rubbish at it. That theme song - put it on soundcloud because it is stuck in my head now.

WOAH this was surprisingly fun and challenge! Incredibly well done, the hand drawn graphics style works perfectly here, and the controls are very intuitive. Honestly a great entry! The enemies are terrifying by the way, the way they lunge at you with that sound is creepy! But again, it all works so well together, so I'll accept the nightmares haha!

Working great on my Linux machine over here, thanks! Love the art style, clever little execution. I kinda wish the blood outside the lines didn't fade out, or maybe faded a little bit and stuck around - feels like I'm cheating otherwise.

But I guess it is a magic coloring book, like those "can't color outside the lines" books they have these days.

Is shotgun only gun in the game ? Maybe grenade launcher will be also cool :)

Definiflly most original game in 41st JAM :) Painting with zombie/mutants blood into hearth :) Graphics is simple but working thats means, it's not ugly contrariwise its nice :)
🎤 BenPeterson
24. Apr 2018 · 00:04 UTC
@brandann @Hadik Yep that's the only gun, definitely wanted to focus on quality execution of a single thing-

I think more shotguns might be added with different spray patterns, damage, and ammo capacities.

also different enemies with different colors of blood could add to the coloring book side of things :o)

Theme 5/5 coloring book and top down shooter combined into a unique and fun game.

Audio 5/5 can't find anything wrong with audio, shotgun sound is great.

Graphics 3.5/5 mostly for that great dodge roll animations and I like the UI fits the game well.

Fun 2/5 too short to be fun, finished the game twice in 1 minute.

Innovation 3/5 standard top down shooter but the coloring book mechanic is innovative.

mood I leave blank cause I got no clue what to rate it, humor 2/5, didn't find anything funny really.

Overall a 3/5 could use some more content just keep the same enemies and gun but have more intricate patterns to fill in like letter Z or something or a cross shape.

very, very intersting idea. It was fun. I was totally in the simple art style. great!

24. Apr 2018 · 12:42 UTC
Very neatly designed game! Concept is simplistic, intuitive and also very well executed. I like how you the game kinda forces you to lure enemies around to get as much 'blood coverage' on the painting as you can. Also if you want to get good accuracy % you have to be kinda close to enemies but not too close to get hit by them which really rewards player for using dodge mechanic. You also can't take too long since next waves are coming and if you have too many enemies then things can go really bad really quickly. Game also feels pretty polished, camera work is pretty nice (i like the zoom on the reloading) and little details like your heart gets more 'corpsy' the more damage you get. The graphics are okay, they have this lighthearted feel to them but i still think game could use more graphical details. Also audio is fine but there could be some more sound effects. Shame you didn't get time to implement rating system but still it's fun to try to get as good as you can since you can see the accuracy, painting and health while playing the level. In overall it's pretty fun game to play, cool gameplay and clever theme implementation, great job!

BTW @digitaldude555 i think you missed the arrows in main menu, there are multiple levels that you can play (different paintings)

To make such an unexpandable concept such as coloring games playable is very creative indeed! The idea of having to defeat enemies in a certain area is not one I've seen in other top-down shooters to be honest. I wonder if you could make a game based on these creative level objectives!

This is such a great concept and the simple art style works really well. It feels really good to play too. I especially enjoyed the rolling animation and even the shotgun loading animation is really nicely done. :)

24. Apr 2018 · 22:20 UTC
@Zeriver Yeah I focused quite a bit on game feel / camera work and making sure that the interactions that existed were polished, glad that came through :) did you noticed that the roll acts as a melee if you do it close enough? I almost had the rating system working but there is a stupid bug with it that I sunk way too much time into haha

@digitaldude555 Thanks for the in-depth rating! I appreciate your critical approach haha, I personally think the premise is humorous but that's all subjective I guess XD. I totally should have made the level progress automatically each time I've noticed some of my friends don't notice the arrows right away.

@IronyGames I guess we'll find out :D I have a few ideas like enemies with different colored blood and more complicated pictures, along with a little story line about trying to impress your Dad who is God or something lol really excited to keep going with it

@LoudEyes Thanks so much LoudEyes! Got a little carried away with the reload animation i'm glad you liked it :)

This is so awesome, at first i was like, ok that's it? but then i saw the arrows for the different levels, THAN i realised the aim of the game .... yes i didn't realise the name xD
🎤 BenPeterson
24. Apr 2018 · 22:32 UTC
@wrexialmt haha yeah, I actually kind of like getting people accustomed to the controls / surviving and then introducing them to the game's real purpose through the report card at the end - Glad you found the arrows! XD really should have made that easier

Cool game and idea. The roll animation is great, the feel is good. I didn't understand that i had to color the heart, but i figured it out pretty quick. I wish there was music during the action.

I can see how this can be expanded simply by adding enemy types, colors, and different shapes/ pictures to fill in. Like maybe 1 enemy works like a paint bucket that fills, and another erases your progress! What if you could spill your own blood for some kind of bonus!?
