Electric lovers by Virtual Turtle Studio

[raw]
made by Virtual Turtle Studio for LD 39 (COMPO)

While crying hysterically he screams: "WHERE ARE YOU BABY?!" , not knowing his tears would come to harm him.

Electric lovers gameplay gif 6.gif

A platformer with a twist. An electric plug in search of it's lover.

My first Ludum dare game! I didn't really have as much time as most people this weekend, but I'm still fairly happy with the result! Unfortunately I just had time for two levels, but the concept is there :)

Known issues:

-Walk sounds are messed up (happened during build process, didn't have time to fix this).

-If you stand under a platform that's going down, you get pushed through the map.

I love the use of the theme ! :grinning:

I had a little problem : in level two, if the downward plateform fall on you, the plug cross the ground and fall in the void.

Cute platformer game, nice idea well executed and looks decent too. Well done with what you did in the short time, the level design is good and the two levels show its potential well. Would like to see it with a longer level and some more environments to explore. Would be cool to go though multiple areas within the same level which have different relevant hazards to mix it up a bit. Good luck.

Hahah it was very funny. I love that our own sweat can kill us :D

130MB later the osx file simply tells me that it cannot be opened. Tried it several times. You wanna separate the two downloads please. No point for anyone to download both.

Great graphics and a really cool idea. I had a lot of fun with this one - was very thankful for the checkpoints though :)

@pitpony , thanks! Haha, yeah, it's quite hard and sometimes all you need is a bit of luck :)

@Matoux42 , Thanks! And also thanks for the feedback. I implemented those elevators way too late so I couldn't really test them anymore. Noted as known issue...

Really nice game, felt well polished and I enjoyed it, but the water pit after the first checkpoint is basically unavoidable first time around as you don't know to jump

Real fun game: just wanted to say that it's pretty easy to walk into a wall and fall off the level.

Definitely funny and cute! Some minor suggestions would be to decrease the amount of damage per tear hit and to mute the movement audio after you've already plugged in. Nice game!

Hahaha this was a real sweet idea, I had a lot of fun playing this. Little things like the bounce and sound effect when you jump really adds to the charm too. Good sound effects but I feel like a good background track could have really added to the mood of the game. VERY polished for how little time you had to work on it, good job.

The tears causing the plug to short-circuit was a great idea! It both made the platforming more interesting, and made unique and humorous use of the theme. I also like going straight back to the checkpoint on death rather than going through a death screen. The drop off on the second level near the end can be hard to manage, but if you were like me then you were trying to squeeze in a second level near the end of the compo! Great submission.

Super cute! The idea is beautiful. The gameplay is stunning. The graphics are mesmerizing. And the sounds are pleasing. Don't have any more words. Beautifully crafted and easy to play, but challenging as well. Made me look forward to how it ends. Best game I've played till now this LDJAM. :D

Really nice idea and I love the design of your level. The tears are really hard to avoid but it is part of the fun . Really nice job!

@peremily Thank you! And yeah, the idea was that it is suppose to teach you how the checkpoint mechanic works :^)

@gmfk07 Thanks! Yeah, you're totally right. Total oversight on my end. Spend so much time writing the mechanics that I forgot to do basic restrictions until it was too late. It's my first ever game jam though, so I definitely need to learn to plan better haha.

@Lyon , Thanks for the kind words :) That's totally what I was thinking too! But all I had was a microphone and some software that I never used before. Next time I'll be hiring a music guy. Because you know... having guys for stuff is cool! ;)

@WhatFruit , Thanks a lot for your opinion man! Haha yeah, you totally read my mind. I'm not a level designer though, but will definitely be investing more time into that because now I know how important it is! It's little things like these that we learn doing jams!

I live the idea of being damaged by your own sweat, though I'd change it so that when you stand you don't sweat, giving some more risk-reward choices to the player

@spliter , yeah that was the original concept, actually. But then the sweat was changed to tears so it would be weird ;) thanks for the suggestion though!
