Toothless Speed Dating is a game where you must get a girlfriend. On your way to your goal you have to overcome obstacles only surmountable by sacrificing yourself so your future incarnation can use you as a ladder or bridge.

Tools used:

  • Unity
  • Visual Studio
  • Inkscape
  • Audacity
  • BoscaCeoil
  • Lightroom

Additional info:

This was my first attempt at making something in Unity besides tutorial projects. And probably the last at making passable music in BoscaCeoil.

This is so much fun!. I just think: without the soundtrack it could have been better.

I just wished to stop hearing the background music! :sob:

It is a nice game! The effect of saving and jumping when touching the female teeth is what I liked most. This and the idea of creating the bridges with the corpses of the past tries.

Maybe the female teeth could give him a special power like the star on super Mario bros! just for getting a greater reward after so much sacrifice!

@fernando-tonon-de-rossi Super powers, that's a great idea. I'll remember that for possible future improvements.

Screaming teeth?

The theme is implemented well and I found the whole game funny. Good stuff

I did it in 21 sacrifices!
This one is really weird...
Creative and well done.

This is very funny, I loved the sound effects. The movement however was a little bit frustrating and the music was weirder than the graphics. Nice photo though. Nice idea for the theme (and the title).

I had so much fun. This game is full of good ideas, it's weird, the controls are confusing in a satisfying way, the sound design is on point, you play as a goddamn tooth. I just love it.

This was so random and weird = good thing! Combination of quirky music and graphics made this very fun and unusual experience to play. Using corpses to move ahead was great idea.

It felt like either jumping through molasses or going uncontrollably fast, with no consistent in between to help with the platforming. It was a bit frustrating, but the background was pretty, and I quite enjoyed the second checkpoint girl accidentally launching me into space when I landed on top of her.

@papabirb Are you sure that checkpoint girl didn't launch you into space on purpose? You never can tell with them :sunglasses:.

quite fun, the controls seemed a little odd.

18 sacrifices! This is so funny and weird, I enjoyed playing it.

Congrats on your first own Unity project! For the next one, I would recommend keeping the visuals simple / consistent - the beautiful photograph in the background doesn't fit the derpy handdrawn character and the fun athomsphere :P
The concept works quite well, it could be a bit faster (move faster, jump higher and not die quite as often) in my opinion ;)

I like your Idea, saddly I've seen better implementation of it during this jam. Solid entry tho.

Lake Bled in the background, how romantic! This is such a crazy game, disturbing music, sound and being a tooth. Controls are lacking as others said, but fortunately there's always dead teeth to climb over.

The story is hilarious, and so are the sound effects. The music just adds to the weird feeling you get while playing. I actually had fun playing this. It was super entertaining. I ended up winning after 20 sacrifices.

There are little this's and that's that could be improved on, but honestly for a first round, I can't say there was anything you should have done better or different. You have what it takes to crush more of these. I hope to see more entries from you in the future!

@elitegoliath Thanks for the kind words. I intend to make this traditional.

@dining-philosopher Yeah, lake Bled sure is romantic and contributes to the whole vibe of the game. I think the controls actually contribute to the funness of the game.

I now realise why Bennet Foddy used his nice relaxing voice-over for Getting Over It. Seriously, that music could be used in an interrogation room ;D

Other than that, a good take on the theme. I found the best way to move was to hammer jump to build up momentum, trying to move slowly was painful. Oh, and the second checkpoint that bounces you away really should have been a checkpoint as the stairs just before it were horrible!

Oh, and I checked out your photography, which is seriously good!

@garethiw Obviously music is not my forte, so next time I'll try to bring aboard a friend who's really good at making music.
Anyway, thanks, as you can see, I'm trying to make good use of my photography when making games.

A creepy romance somewhere between Slovnia and a weird dimension. In any case your entry is funny, fun and interesting. It's a good job and a nice interpretation of the theme
