Overview

The story of a low class family that keeps growing. Your childs need to be fed... and the bills to be paid.

You may need to take tough choices and send some of them to work, or not to feed them to keep some of them from dying... Hard sacrifices that need to be made for the good of the familly.

Oh, and the childs could disobey sometimes. Do not hesitate to slap them to remind them who's in charge !

Horrible you say? Real we say...

Gameplay

Wallet with a hole

Pay your bills and food.

House Management

Ask your children to complete some tasks at home and take showers. Keep the room clean to improve their morale.

And do not forget to send them to pee... Or they will decide to somehow fullfill their need.

Missions

The best way to get money (your low-level wannabe-artist paintings only get you 2$). Classical childhood jobs (prostitution, factories, etc.)

Controls

WASD Controls, Left Click for a good slap, Right Click to interact.

This game is actually really sad and fun at the same time.
I slapped my kids to death ~(^з^)-♡

This was super sad but you did a great job fitting the theme. I loved the visual design and mood of the game. It reminded be of the Postal series. The sound design was a nice touch. The gameplay had an adictive quality. I probably spent more time on this than most of the other jam games. Once I sent one of the kids off as an astronaut and I hit $100, I was ready to call it quits. I would have loved to see some more things to do with the money. Once you have enough to survive month to month, there really isn't much to invest it in. Maybe upgrade the apartment, set a kid to college, who knows!

Super hard but also super funny. Its super hard to give your kids food every night but I guess that also exists in the real world.

Graphics were nice and you really felt like you were doing everyday chores. Slapping your kids was actually very satisfying. Didn't manage to get a kid past 11 years old ... gonna try again later probably.

Great job!

@drekler First: you're an overpowered parent! We didn't imagine that it would be really possible to reach the job of astronaut. I give you a virtual Platinum LDJam Trophy :D

I like your idea of buying him a flat or sending him to college. We hade so much more ideas we wanted to put in the game but it took a long time to develop all you can see in the game!

We always say at start "ok, a small but polished game this time"... and end doing a bigger game each time :D

@all thanks for your feedbacks. Yes it's kinda sad, but I'm happy that it triggered you. Be aware that these lives actually exist...

Impressive game! Very strong mood, like depressing but in a good way. I also got an astronaut kid who saved my family with his 6 figures.
There were some things I didn't quite get, such as how to get a better environment (cleaning didn't seem to influence it much) or how to increase beauty/obedience. My kids never got to see grandma :(

Anyways, I just spent a whole hour on this game.
Very good job to you guys!

I'm struggling to get the humor of a game about child abuse up to beating to death or child prostitution without any consequence. I would have enjoyed a system presenting a parent sacrificing himself/herself/themselves instead.

The game mechanics are based on a minor compulsive loop. In my opinion, using compulsion as a system should be avoided. But if you use such a repetitive compelling system, maybe it should be balanced by giving back to the player in some way. Experiencing child abuse doesn't come to mind, though experiencing emotions like sadness could be a valid one.

The challenge of earning money is balanced so that it's not easy and not hard either (for a non casual player). I think a casual gamer would struggle with understanding the consequence of actions and tasks. Said consequences could use a little more feedback.

I appreciate the condom idea and the visual aesthetics.

Misc. notes:
The first person arm doesn't seem necessary neither for immersion nor for aesthetics, maybe you could remove it.
It's possible to feed a child that you have just killed

Wow. I'm going to be completely honest. This is EASILY the best game I've ever played in a Ludum Dare. Without question. This game is incredible. I was enthralled by it 5 minutes in and kept playing for who knows how long. Everything from the sound effects, to the art and the gameplay in general was excellent. The world and people around you behave in ways so that in the end you actually _care_ about the task at hand.

I ended up working with 2 kids and letting the rest be money farms (thank god this is a video game), I got to a good point in the game as a result. I would suggest adding a greater penalty for killing a child in the game, maybe fines or a general decrease in moral or even having children build relationships with each other.

Fantastic work! I hope more people get to play this game.

btw. That slap sound effect. 10/10. Sounds like I'm slapping them with a fish.

I really liked the game, one of the best games of this LD.The oppressive atmosphere and the situation close to reality create powerful emotions

Holy Craps! Your game has successfully made me feel better about my real life choices as a father. This game is freaking ridiculous haha but in all seriousness, Brilliant Job on this! Your mechanics are extremely thought out for a jam game. The mood is continually reinforced and forces the player to add to it in order to progress. I could see some players hating this, but I love it. Great job on this!

Now there's a theme you don't see everyday.

I found that there was really nothing to do while the kids are away, so I just did chores and made art, which was a little boring.

I think you should include a mechanic that allows you to skip paying your bills, which would incur greater penalties later.

Good job!

Nice game, turns out having more kids makes you more rich. By the way, I can go through walls on the dinner room.
