Mage by kosmosos

[raw]
made by kosmosos for LD 43 (JAM)

Ludum Dare 43 "Sacrifices must be made" game.

First game I've ever made! (on my own)

Tools: Unity, GraphicsGale

You play as a necromancer. Every attack cost you fraction of your health so sacrifice it wisely! However every slained enemy drops capsules which you can use to regain it. Prepare for an endless wave of evil spirits trying to hunt you down!

Use A and D keys to move, Space - jump and mouse to attack. *you can use arrow keys

(didn't manage to compose any audio, sorry!)

Bugs: -enemies get stuck when on middle platform;

Let me know if there's any more!

*so, one question. Does balancing count as bug-fixes after the publish? I'm quite new on the topic so I don't know if it's ok :)

Graphics are good. Gameplay has potential, but could use more polish. I think taking some more time to playtest could turn this game into a 10/10.

I think the gameplay idea was really good. I found the controls a little bit.. lets say.. weird. Especially the shooting. But I guess, thats just me. Other than that, a hard but funny game!

Good graphics and a nice idea however, I was not able to move with the given controls, A and D didn't work for me

Good graphics. Controls would have been better if it was all on the keyboard - like Z to jump and X to attack. Congrats on making your first game on your own!

Graphics are good and you played well with the theme that you must sacrifice enemies to gain health back. gameplay mechanics could use a little bit more polish and same for balancing. I hope you enjoyed ludum dare cant wait to see your next entry :)

Thanks everyone for feedback!! Scripting enemy AI took me so long that I didn't have time for any balancing :')

It's a great looking game, the wizard is quite adorable. I see what you had in mind in terms of gameplay, it's not very varied right now but there's a basis for a fun twitch shooter with the fast projectiles and health sacrificing.

Overall I enjoyed the game, it simple and fun game.
The gameplay's a bit too easy for my taste, you only shout the same enemy over and over. I think if the game had more the one type of enemy it would be much better and interesting. I liked the speed of the character it's a small thing but I think it adds a lot to the pashing to the game. One other way you could improve your level design would be to increase the number of enemies over time. At the start, I didn't understand why I was dying but then I got it. It is a really clever mechanic to sacrifice hp to attack and it puts the theme right in the middle of the gameplay. The graphics are well done, especially the models. The pixel art is great but I would like to see more animations and effects to improve the game feel. I would suggest adding some particle effects to enhance the experience.

Nice job, congratz.

Gorgeous Artwork, I really liked the effect you used on the lifebar. The Wizard has fast movement, which is pretty good, but the jump is to short imo. I can't get onto the platforms as fast as I wish to do, especially compared to the overall speed of the game.

One thing that would be nice, is an enemy counter, a score or something to know, how good one actually was.

@pedro-rosa Thank you!1! Yeah, I really wanted to have several enemies, lighting and some pretty particle system, but trying to make enemy AI work took me too much time (mainly because I went for walking enemy first, who would jump his way up). For the gameplay I also find it easy - I literally made the brain of the enemy, but for example my friend told me that they couldn't make it for even 5 seconds. It just needs some difficulty system I think.
Thanks for great feedback!

@bros Thanks! You don't wanna know how much this bar took me.. If it wasn't the first time I was doing something like this, there's high chance I would add more UI like score. Now that I think about it, just a simple goal like high score would make the game twice as enjoyable. Well, bummer.
